The Witcher 2 Walkthrough Part 17: Where Is Triss Merigold?

This mission plays out very differently depending on whether or not you chose to help Iorveth in the last mission.

If you chose Iorveth:

Return to town from the shrine. Iorveth will naturally not be able to accompany you back, as he would be killed upon sight at Flotsam’s gates. When attempting to get back into town, if you didn’t accept Loredo’s proposal, you will have to break out persuasion or Axii to convince the guards to let you through. Immediately upon entering Flotsam you will notice the chaos that has overtaken the city. Buildings lie in flame and NPCs riot in the streets. Take some time out to help the group of non-humans under attack in front of the gallows by either killing their attackers or persuading them to stop, and then go into the pub.

You will find Dandelion caught in a desperate struggle to defend two elven women from several human attackers. Again, you can either attack them or use intimidation or Axii to quell them. Talk to Dandelion after the scuffle to learn about how the riots began. As a bonus, he’ll give you a lead on where he thinks Letho has taken Triss.

Run down the street towards the docks to find three dwarves in the middle of the street begging for help. Talk to them and agree to help them out, as you will eventually meet up with them again if you do. Then move on to Sile’s room on the second floor of the inn. Sile is nowhere to be found, but Margot is hanging around outside of the room. Talk to her and prepare for a bit of a perspective change.

This next section will cast you as Triss instead of Geralt. As you may remember from your earliest encounters with the Kayran, Triss had been suspicious of Sile upon their first meeting. As Triss, you’ll head back to Sile’s room in a sort of flashback scenario. There you will find Philippa. During this conversation, keep in mind that you will not be able to go through every conversation option, as you will be interrupted before finishing. Ask her about Sile and the Lodge of Sorceresses. After a cutscene, you will receive 100 experience points and be cast back into Geralt’s shoes.

Now you must head out in search of Cedric. He has been wounded and can be tracked by the trail of his blood. Enter meditation and drink a Cat potion. This will help you to easier see the blood splatters. Follow them out of Flotsam in the direction of the Troll’s bridge, to the stream that intersects the path. Turn right at the stream and follow it to its endpoint at a lake with a waterfall. There you will find Cedric. He will tell you that Triss recruited him to help uncover Sile’s true motives. During his investigation he encountered Sile’s bodyguard, whom he promptly slew. Before he and Triss could do any further damage, Letho appeared, wounded Cedric, and made off with Triss for Aedirn. As he dies, Cedric will tell you how to further restore your memory. Conveniently enough, it involves paying a visit to Aedirn.

As Cedric dies, Dandelion and Zoltan will approach you with a warning. Apparently, both the Blue Stripes and the Scoia’tael are planning something big and could use your help. This will initiate two quests, At A Crossroads: Scoia’tael, and At A Crossroads: Vernon Roche. As you may guess, completing one of these quests will block the other quest out, and your decision here plays a big part in how Act II plays out. Collect 900 experience for finding Cedric and decide which of the two options you would like to pursue.

If you chose Roche:

Your greeting at Flotsam will be far different if you chose to help Roche over Iorveth. Roche will accompany you back to the gates, where Loredo will meet you spouting praise your way. A feast has been arranged near the gallows in your honor. Take your time and talk to whoever you like before heading off for the pub to track down Triss.

Instead of Triss, you’ll find Dandelion in the pub. He will offer you a drink. You can either accept or refuse the drink without consequence. Tell Dandelion that Triss may be in danger and he will agree to help search for her. Much like if you chose Iorveth, you should head to Sile’s room only to find it empty and stained with blood. Dandelion speculates that there must have been someone else in the room because all of the blood is too much for just one body. Your search for a witness doesn’t have to wait long. Search through the peephole to find a cowering prostitute by the name of Derae. Go around and speak to her.

Derae will recount how she was talking to Margot in the next room over when she heard a commotion coming from Sile’s room. Peering through the peephole she saw Triss and Cedric searching through Sile’s room.

In this next section, you will take control of Triss as she questions King Henselt’s wizard Dethmold through a megascope. Ask him about what Sile is planning and probe his brain a little on the kingslayers and the recent demise of King Foltest.

Back in Geralt’s body, Derae will lament that Margot has been missing ever since. Further questioning reveals that Cedric went limping off towards the forest after an apparent attack. Agree to search for Margot to unlock the side quest Margot’s Disappearance, and then end the conversation to earn 100 experience points.

On your way out of town head into Margot’s room, which is located on the first floor of the pub. You’ll find Margot hanging there by a noose. Reading a note near her corpse sheds light on her apparent suicide. This will complete the side quest Margot’s Disappearance, although the quest is so simple that it will not reward you with any experience.

From here, enter meditation and drink a Cat potion. Using the enhanced vision provided by Cat, track Cedric’s blood splatters out of Flotsam in the direction of the Troll’s bridge. When you reach the stream that intersects the path, turn right and follow it to a lake with a waterfall. Along the way you will be ambushed by a small group of Scoia’tael. Kill them before proceeding to the waterfall. Here you will find Cedric. He will explain what happened to Triss and point you in the direction of Aedirn, where if Geralt is lucky he will also be able to recover new fragments of his memory.

As Cedric dies, Zoltan and Dandelion will approach you with news. They claim that both the Blue Stripes and the Scoia’tael are planning something big, and they would like your help. Collect the 900 experience points for finishing Where Is Triss Merigold? and take a moment to ponder which side you’d like to support. Naturally, the option you choose here will have far-reaching consequences in Act II.
