Abathur, Evolution Master Skills and Abilities - Heroes of the Storm


Abathur, the Evolution Master is a specialist hero straight out of the Starcraft universe. Abathur is responsible for the evolution of Kerrigan's Swarm during Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm and works ceaselessly to improve the genetic pool of the Zerg race. His hatred for chaos and imperfections comes close to madness.


Come into my pit, we've got evolution!

Abathur is an enigma. The Evolution Master of Kerrigan's Swarm during Heart of the Swarm with a troubled past and of a very secret nature. The Zergs have searched for the perfection of their race since their youth through predatory and merciless evolution. While the Overmind has been a driving force behind this for the Zergs, Abathur is its will personified. 

Abathur is an old organism, long serving as an “evolution master” – a guiding hand spinning the strands of zerg DNA into mutations of existing zerg and entirely new strains. Left to its own devices, Abathur’s approach to evolving the Swarm is unorthodox: consuming living tissue, and dissolving it into genetic components able to be quickly reassemble

Abathur is one of the Zergs who seems least linked to the Overmind -apart from Kerrigan- and is particularly individualistic and self aware for his race. His quest for perfection leads him into an alliance with Kerrigan and to get down on one ... knee (?) before a higher authority, but no doubt Abathur has plenty of other ideas in mind...


Abathur's Abilities: Leave me a place in your brain

Abathur is a very unusual character for his type. Basically the Evolution Master has no direct attack, almost all his spells have a global range and Abathur is never as happy as when you're not playing him directly, whether it's in a symbiotic relation with an ally or by using his heroic ability that creates a copy of the allied target. Abathur is special. Very special.

(D) Locust Strain

Abathur spawns a Locust to attack down the nearest lane every 20 seconds.

(Q) Symbiote

- Cooldown: 4 seconds
- Duration: 45 seconds


Assists the target allied unit or structure allowing Abathur to shield them and use new abilities from the host. Lasts for 45 seconds. Cannot be used on self, the Palace, Grave Golems, or summoned units.

(W) Toxic Nest

- Charge Cooldown: 12 seconds


Spawns a mine-like nest at a location that becomes active after a short arming time. Deals 280 (52 + 12 per level) damage to enemies that contact it, and reveals the enemy for 4 seconds. Nests last for 90 seconds.

(R) Ultimate Evolution

- Heroic Ability
- Cooldown: 120 seconds
- Duration: 45 seconds


Abathur creates a copy of the target ally Hero and takes control of it. The Evolution's attributes are based on Abathur's current level and talents. Lasts for 45 seconds. Cannot be used on himself.

(W)  Deep Tunnel

- Cooldown: 30 seconds


Abathur quickly tunnels to the target visible location.

(Q) Stab (Symbiote)

- Skillshot
- Cooldown: 3 seconds


Shoots a spike towards target area that deals 50 damage to the first enemy it contacts.

(W) Spike Burst (Symbiote)

- AoE
- Cooldown: 6 seconds


Cooldown: 6 seconds Deals 32 damage to enemies near the ally Abathur is assisting.

(E) Carapace (Symbiote)

- Cooldown: 12 seconds


Shields the assisted ally for 160. Lasts for 8 seconds.
