Do you enjoy cooking? Do you like to experiment with various recipes? Maybe you always wanted to try it, but were too afraid? Don’t worry, Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! is here to give you a simple, yet fun way to learn the tricks of cooking!
Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! is the only mobile game by the developer Office Create, who have created various 3DS games before. Do they know what people want from cooking games? Did they create something addicting? We shall see!

Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! is rated 4.2/5 stars on the Google Play Store, while having a 4.5/5 stars rating on the Apple App Store. The masses seem to be liking it, with millions of downloads and mostly positive reactions, but what does the game offer? Let’s check it out!

Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! is a game where you are in Mama’s kitchen and are tasked with cooking various dishes, that are shown as available. Mama will give you small tips and show you how to do each step, so you don’t feel so overwhelmed. She will also offer a practice mode for each dish, where you can try to perfect it any number of times.

Each dish includes 6 steps needed for it to be completed. So for example if you want to make Salisbury Steak, you will need to (1) cut the ingredients, (2) stir fry it, (3) mince the meat, (4) knead the meat, (5) shape the meat, then lastly (6) cook it.

All the steps in each dish are done in various minigame forms. Most of these minigames are played by swiping your finger in a way that the arrows indicate, matching patterns and items or just activating things like the oven or frier and making sure the dish doesn’t stay in too long to be burned. One example of these minigames is cracking eggs, which is done by swiping your finger towards the edge of the bowl 3 times, cracking the egg, then tapping the egg to let it’s contents fall into the bowl, without the shell.

Once you successfully complete a step, you will be given a rating in the form of stars. Each step can get you 3 stars, if you did everything well or zero stars, if you couldn’t complete the step at all. These stars get summed at the end, when you completed them all and cooked the dish, then your overall rating decides how good the finished dish is. You then get the option to serve it to Papa, who will react to the food accordingly and award you with hearts. You can get a maximum of 3 hearts, if your dish was perfect. You will also get Mama Coins, if you did very well with a dish and can spend these later.

There is also the option to combine various dishes and create mixtures of them in Cooking Mama Let’s Cook!. This works in a way that it takes half of the minigame steps from the first dish and then takes half of them from the second dish, then gives you these 6 combined. Completing these dishes work in the same way as the original ones, only the order of the steps differ.

Overall you can find 4 recipes in the game at the start: Salisbury Steak, Cheese Omelet, Cupcake and French Fries. There is also one more added as a reward for each 7 days you login in a row. Other than these and the possibility of combining them, you have the option to go to the ingame shop and purchase more recipes with real money. There are 5 recipe packs available and each cost $3.99. These all include 6 different recipes each and can lengthen the gameplay a lot, even if you just buy one pack.
Other than the main cooking, there are also challenges each day, but they cost one Mama Coin for each try. These challenges don’t award you with anything, other than a score at the end of each. They are only there to entertain people who have completed all available recipes and can’t afford new ones.

If you are bored of cooking and the challenges, you will also have the option to change the outfit and hair of Mama, change the colors and look of various kitchen utensils, the timer or even the whole kitchen. These options will be unlocked by playing the game and completing requests by Papa.

Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! also has achievements, which you can check out using a button in the main menu. These achievements are only good to show off though, they don’t award any rewards.

Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! Cheats & Tips

There are some small cheats and tricks in the gameplay of Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! that you can use. Most importantly you can do variously minigames faster than its suggested speed. For example when you need to shape the meat in the Salisbury Steak, you will have to throw the meat from one hand to the other repeatedly. If you can keep up the throwing pattern of tapping one hand then the another, you can do this at a very fast speed by continously tapping the hands correctly. This will cause the meat to fly very fast, but it won’t fall out of your hands, except if you miss the pattern. You can also fasten up other minigames like this.

A good tip you should remember is that if you fail a step in a dish or get less stars than required, you can retry it for a Mama Coin. You might do better on the second attempt and the first will be disregarded, like it never happened.

You can also fully retry any dish once you are finished with it and are not feeling content with the outcome.

Another way you can cheat the game is by completing each dish in practice mode fist, which will work exactly like the normal gamemode, but you can give it a go any number of times, without any punishment or losing stars. Once you are good at the practice mode, you can complete the same dish for stars much easier, because you will already know all the tricks to the minigames.

Another simple thing to remember is that you can quit out of a dish at any times, if you feel like you don’t want to do it anymore, but you can’t quit out of a minigame without either completing it, failing it or letting the timer run out first.

The last, but still good tip to remember is that if you login 7 days in a row, you will get a free recipe unlocked. You can’t get recipes in any other way than this or buying them for real money, so just starting up the game each day for a minute can award you with this free recipe on the 7th day.

Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! Review

To be entirely honest, Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! was the first cooking game I have ever played. I enjoy cooking and baking in real life, but never tried a game like this before. I happily gave a chance to it and I’m glad I did, as it was pretty fun.

The game didn’t really explain much and thrown me into the deep water, figuratively speaking. I decided to complete my first dish using the practice mode, since I though it might be too hard to do it in the normal gamemode on the first try. Surprisingly, the minigames in the first dish were pretty easy to complete, even while the Mama’s tips weren’t always useful.

She will keep telling you small tips when you start a minigame, but what you have to do exactly is not so obviously all the time. Cracking eggs, kneading meat and similar tasks were still simple enough, but setting the oven and other similar tasks which include buttons and various settings weren’t that clear at first. It’s not a big problem though, as practice mode can help with getting used to them.

I decided to complete the remaining 3 dishes without ever touching practice mode again and they were kinda easy to do. I could simply get 3 stars and 3 hearts on each. Then I decided to give a go to combining dishes, but it honestly didn’t change much of the gameplay. I still had to do the same minigames, but in different orders and variations, but there were no new ones added.

I also tried out the challenge modes, but they were not that exciting and in my opinion worse than the main game. You only get a score for it and have to do a specific task as many times as you can in a limited time. Putting various food on a skewer is not that exciting, when you have to do it 10 times in a row and you don’t even get a real reward in the end.

Overall, Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! is a fun game and I enjoyed playing it. The only complaint I have about it is the fact that 30 recipes can be unlocked by spending real money, but only 4 recipes are available for free. It just limits the gameplay in a big way, since doing the same minigames over and over will get boring pretty fast for anyone. So you either have to spend money to play more, or just wait a very long time and don’t forget to login each day.

I can still recommend the game, as it’s first 4 recipes are free and are fun to complete. Even kids will probably enjoy it a lot.

Our Own Ratings

Artwork: I give artwork in Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! an 8/10. The art and design in this game is cute and fully fits the gameplay. It’s a very happy looking game, perfect even for kids.

Music & SFX: The music gets a 5/10. The music reminds me a lot of evelator music and sadly there is not much variety in it. You will hear the same, not too original song over and over again during the whole game, which is a little sad. The SFX is good at least, even the sounds the ingredients make during minigames are realistic enough.

Story & Originality: The story deserves a 6/10 rating. Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! is not a game with a real and original story. You only know that you are in Mama’s kitchen and have to cook for Papa. That’s basically it. Still, the gameplay doesn’t require anything serious storywise, so I’m not gonna complain much there.

General Gameplay: I give the general gameplay an 8/10. The game is very simple and easy to understand most of the time. Even little children can easily play this game and have a lot of fun with it. Only the limited amount of recipes are the main problem, otherwise this game delivers a fun cooking game experience.

Addictiveness: The addictiveness in Cooking Mama Let’s Cook! gets a 6/10 from me. The main problem with the game is the small amount of possible recipes. You only start out with 4 of them and have to either login 7 days in a row for a free recipe, or buy the 5 recipe packs in the shop to get 6 recipes included in each. If someone doesn’t plan on spending money, they will soon run out of content and get bored of the game.

Overall Score: 6/10.
