When you change spirits in YuGiOh GX Spirit Caller you cannot use that previous spirit so what do you do

It's not that you can never change back to that spirit. It's just "knocked out" for a while since it lost contact with you (I'm not making this up; it's in the little instruction booklet).
After a while you will be able to change back to them.
