Clicker Heroes Walkthrough
Universes, Areas, & Zones
In Clicker Heroes, a Universe consists of an infinite number of Areas and Zones. An Area consists of five zones. The first four Zones in each Area contain regular monsters that you must kill, aka regular mob zone. A regular mob zone requires you to kill 10 monsters to proceed, but can take as few as 5 with an Ancient, called Kumawakamaru, Ancient of Shadows when fully upgraded. The fifth Zone in each Area will contain a boss or primal boss. You only require to kill 1 boss to proceed to the next zone.
Monsters
In Clicker Heroes, you'll be killing monsters. A lot of monsters. Who can't fight back. Clicking on a monster hurts it. The more you click, the more damage you do. At the beginning of the game, you'll be fighting for the most part ten monsters per level. Each time you kill off all ten monsters, a new level will appear up top and you can click on it to move to the next level. The monsters get progressively harder; their hit points go up on an exponential curve. This exponential progression is a theme that exists throughout Clicker Heroes.
Eventually you'll reach a point where a new button will appear on the right, allowing you to switch between "progression mode" and "farm mode." With progression mode on, the game will automatically move you to the next level when you qualify for it. If you reach a boss fight you can't win (see section on Bosses below), the game will automatically go back one level and switch to farm mode.
Bosses
Every 5 levels, you'll encounter a boss. You have thirty seconds to beat it using a combination of clicks, powerups, and DPS. If you fail, the timer will restart, or if you have progression mode on, it will fall back to the previous level. Just like the regular monsters, bosses progress exponentially. Just because you walloped the last one doesn't mean you can take down the guy waiting five levels later. For maximum efficiency, you should always be at the highest level your heroes can get you to and still win. This means you'll eventually stall out at some level ending in a 4 or 9, to gain power and be ready to take the boss on. Always progress as far as you can!
Regular Bosses
A boss is a unique, or an elite version of a mob. Bosses have a considerably higher HP and you have 30 seconds to defeat a boss. If you fail to beat a boss within that amount of time, it gets reset with full health and new timer. This means you probably need to head back to lower Zones and train up before attempting again.
Primal Bosses
Primal bosses are elite versions of a normal boss. Primal bosses will have a certain graphical indicators such as a purple font, and a glowing aura. Defeating a primal boss will award a certain number of hero souls. Only the first boss in any boss zone may be a primal boss. Therefore, it is not possible to grind a boss zone for primal bosses for its hero souls. Leaving a boss zone or failing to kill a primal zone will not result in the primal boss disappearing. It will remain until you defeat it.
You have a 25% chance of encountering a primal boss on every Fifth zone, starting with zone 105. And, can be boosted to a maximum of 50% by summoning Atman, Ancient of Souls. The higher the level of the encountered boss, the greater the soul reward.
Centurion Bosses
Centurion bosses are unique bosses that sure occur every 100 levels, unlike Primal bosses which encounter based on chances. They work just like primal bosses, but grant achievements!
Hero Levels
Heroes are the main source of DPS in Clicker Heroes. You obtain a hero by hiring them with an amount of gold earning by defeating monsters. All heroes do damage over time automatically, except of Cid, who upgrades base click damage. Currently, there are 35 heroes in the game. Because heroes Increase in cost exponentially as they level up, they cease to be cost-effective extremely quick. As such, the general rules for purchasing heroes and upgrades is as follows:
Level up each hero to level 10 and purchase their first upgrade before moving on. Only after you have purchased 3-5 more heroes following this progression should you go back and finish buying that hero's upgrade. When exactly you go back and do this depends on how useful the high-level upgrades of that hero are. An example is Midas, it has extremely useful upgrades, so he should be upgraded as soon as his next upgrade level is affordable.
You can level a hero by clicking the "LVL UP" button next to the hero's name after you have hired them. SHIFT+Click levels them by a max of 10, Z+Click levels up in increments of 25 and, if you can afford it, CONTROL+Click levels them in increments of 100. Leveling up a hero adds to the amount of DPS it does. Leveling up a hero will also increase the cost of the next level up by 7%. Every hero except Cid gets a 4x damage multiplier every 25 levels starting at level 200 and capped at level 4100, and a 10x multiplier every 1000 levels (capped at level 3000). This makes the earlier heroes viable in the late game, but the cap means that later heroes will ultimately get you further.
Gilded Heroes
You will receive a gilded hero for beating your all-time highest zone starting at level 100, and every 10 levels thereafter. If you have already received a gilding from a zone on a previous ascension or your current ascension, you will not receive another. Each time a hero is gilded, they receive a +50% damage bonus which stacks, in addition to an appearance change. The damage bonus per gild can be increased by purchasing Argaiv, the ancient of enhancement.
The gilded hero you obtain is chosen randomly for you. However, you may spend 2 souls to un-gild a hero, and obtain a new randomly chosen gilded hero. To optimize the bonus from gilds, it's most efficient to stack them on a single hero. Early on you will lose too much DPS doing this to be worth it, as there is a 1/35 chance of re-gilding to the specific hero you want, or you can now press Shift+Click to gild a specific hero, by taking a gild away from a random other hero which costs 80 hero souls.
List of Best Heroes to Gild
Note: This is a list of the best heroes to have gilded, from highest value to lowest. This is obtained by first leveling all heroes until their efficiency (damage increase / price) is about the same, then ranking them by their damage at that level. Note that if you intend to push for 4100, this all becomes irrelevant and you should spend everything on Astaea.

Skills
Active Skills
An Active Skill is a buff that can be purchased from any applicable hero once they’re reached the prerequisite level. There are currently 9 skills available. These skills have cooldown periods, must be activated in order to use them, and only function for a set amount of time. Active skills will disappear when you ascend through Amenhotep so they will have to be unlocked again.
1. Clickstorm: Automatically performs 10 clicks per second for 30] seconds (Default). 20 clicks per second (Energized).
2. Powersurge: +100% Damage for 30 seconds (Default). +200% (Energized).
3. Lucky Strikes: +50% Chance for Critical Clicks for 30 seconds (Default). +100% for Critical Clicks (Energized).
4. Metal Detector: +100% gold dropped by enemies for 30 seconds (Default). +200% (Energized).
5. Golden Clicks: +1% of monsters gold per click for 30 seconds (Default). +2% (Energized).
6. The Dark Ritual: 5% (1.05x) increase in DPS until ASCENSION (Default). +10% (1.10x) (Energized).
7. Super Clicks: +200% clicking damage for 30 seconds (Default). +400% (Energized).
8. Energize: Doubles the effect of your next skill (Default). Absolutely nothing! (Energized).
9. Reload: Reduce the cooldown of the last skill used by 1] hour (Default). Reduce the cooldown of the last 2 skills used by 1 hour (Energized).
Good Skill Usage:
- Energize + Super Clicks are a crowd favorite for bosses.
- Energize + Clickstorm can help with the clicking speed achievements.
- Energize + Dark Ritual can give up to a 10% permanent power boost rather than the normal 5%.
- Energize + Reload will recharge the last two skills used prior by the amount of time listed.
- Energize + Dark Ritual + Reload + Wait for 15 minutes without casting any skills, then Energize + Reload. Repeat! This strategy permanently ties up Energize and Reload, but allows you to get +10% DPS twice an hour. You will need Vaagur maxed for this combo to work.
- Always use Clickstorm, Powersurge, Lucky Strikes, Metal Detector, and Super Clicks together. If possible, use Golden Clicks as well, since Metal Detector doubles Golden Click's effect.
- Try to use Clickstorm and Powersurge together, while waiting for the longer cooldowns of the above abilities.
Bad Skill Usage:
- Energizing the skill Energize won’t do anything.
- Do not reload a skill, and attempt to use it again while it’s still active – It won’t stack the benefits, it will overwrite them.
- Dark Ritual increases your base damage, so using Power Surge will not give you a higher bonus to damage.
Hero Upgrades
Hero Upgrade is a permanent buff that can be purchased from any applicable hero once they’re reached the prerequisite level. Hero Upgrades will disappear when you ascend through Amenhotep so they will have to be unlocked again. Each hero has a sequence of upgrades. These upgrades occur at level 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, and 175. Not all heroes have an upgrade at all levels, but they all have one at 10 and 25. They alter the DPS of your hero, typically doubling it, although some heroes get as much as 150% from some of their upgrades. This is why it's so valuable to get a hero to level 10 and 25; You're effectively getting twice the hero for only a little more cost. That first time you get Frostleaf to level 10 and double him, you'll be so happy.
Team player upgrades occur in a few varieties. Some heroes, Betty Clicker is the most notable, upgrade the DPS of all of your heroes, although by a smaller amount (10-25%). It is vitally important that you eventually get every one of these team player upgrades during any run, but you won't be able to afford getting these heroes up to higher levels immediately. Sometimes you need to backtrack and level up heroes that aren't doing much DPS to get the team player upgrades.
The next "team player" kind belongs to King Midas, who permanently upgrades your gold dropped from monsters. What a guy. Finally, some "team player" hero upgrades will improve your click damage, critical click multiplier, or critical click chances. Critical clicks are great. Don't neglect these upgrades, they are super helpful when making deep runs, which we'll get to later.
Ascension
Ascension is an ability that the 20th hero names Amenhotep has once you level him to 150 at 19,200q prerequisite. Ascension allows you to reset the game back to level 1, and all your heroes back to level zero. Basically is a soft reset the world, wiping all progress, but achievements, hero souls and Ancients. But, why should I ascend? Ascension is an important part of this game, because of souls! It is advised to ascend whenever it takes too long to beat a level, even with using your skills. On your first ascension, this is usually around zone 140. The general consensus is to push to the next boss, checking if he's a primal, beating him if he is or ascending if he's not. Ascending for 5-15 HS is the most optimal for early game. It's important to note that you get 1 HS per every 2000 hero levels combined so make sure you level up your heroes as much as possible before ascending.
You could be struggling around those zones for a few days, so don't worry; that's just a part of the game and you're not doing anything wrong. Ascending when it gets slow and getting HS will help you break down that wall and push further. This would be called early game. Once you broke down that 140 "wall" and are able to push further, you're entering mid game. There is no need to ascend around 140 anymore, push as high as you can by employing your skills and EDR. This could take a couple of days and requires around 500 HS optimally and there is no real formula for when to ascend. This could be anywhere from zone 300 to 800, going higher with each ascension. You should be able to instant-kill all lower zones.
Souls
When you ascend, you get hero souls and you want lots of soul in Clicker Heroes. Hero souls function as a currency and permanent stat boost. Each hero soul, increase your click damage and damage by 10% with no cap. Or, it can be used as a currency to summon and level up Ancients. For every soul you have earned is earned through one of the two methods below:
1. For every 2,000 hero levels you have in total across all heroes, you will obtain a single Hero Soul for your next ascension.
2. By killing primal bosses. A Primal Boss awards a number of hero souls of souls for your next Ascension depending on the level they are defeated on.
Ancients
Ancients is a Hero Soul Store that allows you to buy permanent buffs in a similar fashion to heroes. Instead of spending gold on ancients, you spend hero souls. SHIFT, CTRL, and Z can be used to level your ancients faster. Ancients provide unique buffs such as enhanced skill timers, increased starting gold, and so on. Clicking the "Summon Ancient" button will bring up a random selection of four Ancients. Each ancient purchase will reset the ones available. Selections can be also be reset at any time by clicking the "Reroll" button in the selection box. Cost of rerolls depends on the number of ancients summoned. You can respec all of your ancients, but not individually and regain 75% of what you spent on them. Once summoned, Ancients can be leveled up to increase their effects at the cost of additional Hero Souls per level. Some ancients have maximum levels, but not all. Ancients stick with you through ascension, so they are a long term investment. Ancients like Khrysos and Iris were specifically made to help make an ascension easier on the player.
Active Build
The Active build (Juggernaut, Bhaal, Fragworth, etc.) requires massive amounts of clicking, but has no immediate cap on how much of a boost your DPS can get so long as you don’t stop clicking, and it allows you to use skills like Golden Clicks and Power Surge without disrupting said bonus. With even one level in Juggernaut, you can start spamming clicks to try and rack up the click combos and grind your mouse into oblivion. Progress can be made to higher zones.
Idle Build
The Idle build (Siyalatas, Libertas, Chronos, etc.) rewards players with a bonus to their gold and DPS in exchange for their absence. If you’re a busy individual who likes to let the game sit in the background, this build is a must have. Do keep in mind skill combos, skills, or attacking an enemy will disrupt your idle status removing any buffs you currently have. Progress can be made to higher zones. Notably, clicking on a clickable that appears within the game area does not break the idle mode.
Off-line Build
The game is in Off-line mode if the game window is closed. In this mode, gold is acquired based on your heroes total DPS and the highest zone level that is accessible, as seen at the top of the screen. No progress to higher zone levels will occur while in Off-line mode. If not in Idle mode when going off-line, it will be calculated as if Idle mode had been entered at the same time as if the game had been left running. If a game save is imported, the time since the save was made will be treated as if the game was in Off-line mode until the time of import.
Tier List for Ancient
Top:
Siyalatas - Bonus idle DPS.
Libertas - Bonus idle Gold.
Juggernaut - Additional DPS per click combo.
Vaagur - Reduces skill cooldown.
Atman - Increases Primal chance.
Solomon - Bonus Primal Hero Souls.
These are pretty self-explanatory, and are pretty widely agreed upon. Siyalatas, Libertas, and Juggernaut are useful even for people with low soul counts, and Vaagur, Atman, Solomon increase your soul count immensely later on, even if you aren't spamming Dark Ritual. You should buy these 6 ancients first no matter what!
Upper-Middle:
Mammon - Bonus Gold dropped.
Fragsworth - Bonus Click damage.
Kumawakamaru - Reduce monsters to next level.
Bhaal - Bonus Critical damage.
Mimzee - Bonus Gold from Treasure Chests.
Dora - Increases Chests chance.
Dogcog - Decreased Hero cost.
Mammon stacks well with Libertas, and is the second best Gold ancient. Fragsworth increases the single largest combination for burst damage (clickstorm - lucky strikes - super clicks) by a significant amount. Kumawakamaru can decrease some time wasted fighting trash mobs in lower levels and speeds up time to get to upper bosses so that cooldowns only need to be refreshed once instead of twice, even if he doesn't help as much when one is limited by cooldowns - gold and costs a very large amount of souls. Bhaal, similarly to Fragsworth, is in UM because crits are especially useful. Mimzee is Mimzee, but doesn't have the psychological benefits of seeing tons of gold accumulating at once. Dora is somewhere near Mimzee, but is hard to quantify to due an apparently variable chest rate- but late game players swear by her. Dogcog is hard to compare directly to the other two, but averages a 4% Gold increase per level at cap.
Middle:
Fortuna - 10x Gold Chance.
Argaiv - Increased Gilded bonus.
Iris - Increased starting zone after ascension.
Bubos - Decreased Boss Life.
Pluto - Bonus Gold from Golden Clicks.
Berserker - Extended Powersurge.
Energon - Extended Metal Detector.
Chawedo - Extended Clickstorm.
Fortuna is outshadowed by other gold ancients rather heavily (see here), but is still useful when combined with the others- and nets a 1.9x bonus at cap (compared to Dogcog's 2x). Argaiv was heavily nerfed, but still doubles gild effects at level 25. Iris raises your starting zone when you ascend, which saves time spent instakilling enemies. Don't overlevel iris, keep it at level 50. Bubos may get an average of a 4% DPS increase per level at cap, but he only affects bosses. Pluto is useful alone and increases the Golden Clicks skill fairly massively, but that can only be used once every 15 minutes max. Berserker now breaks Libertas - Siyalatas bonuses, but still doubles DPS, is useful alone, and ties with the shortest cooldown. Energon synergizes well with almost all gold ancients (except Libertas), but caps at an extra minute (so you can have double gold activated 20% of the time rather than 6.67% of the time). Chawedo is basically required for all of the other click-based ancients, but is not very useful at all on his own.
Low:
Sniperino - Extended Lucky Strikes.
Hecatoncheir - Extended Super Click.
Kleptos - Extended Golden Clicks.
Chronos - Extended Boss Fight timers.
Morgulis - Bonus Hero Soul DPS.
Khrysos - Extra starting gold.
Thusia - Extra Treasure Chest health 100%.
Revolc - Increase chance of rubies from clickables treasures.
Sniperino, Hecatoncheir, and Kleptos are all useful in conjunction with clickstorm (whether or not one is facing a boss), but are relatively useless on their own. Chronos is useful when all the above ancients are leveled, but doesn't do much on his own (and the other extension skills are lower tiers as well). Morgulis is a Hero Soul bank that basically gives 10% DPS interest per soul, and you will always be holding a large percentage of your total souls (for example, instead of holding on to 100 souls, you can spend them all on Morgulis and get +1100% DPS instead of +1000% DPS); his cost is an ancient slot, which becomes large later in the game, and he requires a huge investment simply to break even (much less double your DPS). Khrysos gives up to Natalia during ascensions at cap, which can be done in less than 5 minutes otherwise (especially at that number of souls). Thusia only works in conjunction with golden clicks, which should comprise a very small portion of the time, but is now no longer a detriment. Revolc is just a good to have Ancient which increase the chances of you getting double rubies from those clickable treasures.

Relics
Relics are equip-able items that provide various bonuses, similar to the Ancients. However, All relics are additive bonuses. You can simply add them together and on to the end of your ancient bonuses. Relics are obtained when you defeat a Relic Ooze monster, they can only spawn once per ascension and only after your first ascension. Relic Ooze has a chance to spawn starting at zone 99 up till 66% of your Highest Zone Ever (HZE). The strength of a Relic's power varies based on its level. So for example, if your HZE is at 1000 and you don't have the ancient Iris, a Relic Ooze can spawn anywhere between zone 99 and 660. If you have the ancient Iris, the minimum spawn zone is at whatever level Iris is at. If your Iris is more than 7/15 of your HZE, then the maximum spawn zone changes to Iris level + HZE/5, to prevent leveling your Iris too close to 66% of your HZE and easily farm for relics.
You are allowed to keep up to four Relics with you through Ascension. Once you have four Relics, any new Relic obtained will end up in the Junk Pile. On the Relics tab, you may decide which Relics (if any) you wish to keep while savaging all others in the Junk Pile.
Relic Information
Levels
Relic levels are calculated depending on the zone level in which the Relic Ooze spawns. The higher the zone level, the higher the Relic level will be. A Relic obtained at zone 1500 will always have a higher level than a Relic at zone 1400. Relics have a max level of 50.

Every Relic has its own unique class (eg: Death, Freedom, Agitation, etc) and the first prefix will always correspond to the Ancient to which it refers. As an example, a Death class Relic will always give the stat "+% to Hero Soul DPS(additive)", in the same way the Ancient Morgulis gives +11% Hero Souls DPS per HS(additive).

Forge Cores
As of v0.20, Forge Cores does absolutely nothing. You can obtain Forge Cores when you salvage a relic. The amount of Forge Cores a relic is worth depends on the rarity as well as the level of it. However, the value of a relic seems to lean towards the level of it more rather than the actual rarity.

Clickables
Clickables are special bonuses that randomly appear while playing. The appearance of these bonuses occasionally changes, often to coincide with holidays.
Bonus Currency Clickable
Also referred to as "Clickable Treasures" in in-game text, these clickables can appear in a few points in the game playable area. These clickables will never appear or cover skill, option or purchase buttons. It will never spawn more than 2 at once, and do not expire or move placement once spawned. Minimum spawn delay is 1 second. Clicking on this bonus will not cause the loss of idle bonuses. Clicking on these give gold equal to 10x that of a normal monster of the highest level unlocked. For boss levels, it is based on what a normal monster would have been. The gold is influenced by Libertas and Mammon, and can be multiplied further by Fortuna, but Mimzee does not have an effect. There is also a chance of 1-2 rubies dropping. Revolc, Ancient of Luck, as well as some Relics, increase the chance of 2 rubies dropping.
Bonus Skill Clickable
These clickables appear at the top of the play area, just below the name and level of the zone, starting at the right and moving towards the left. It requires 50 clicks for the bonus to activate. Clicking on this bonus will not cause the loss of idle bonuses, unless you accidentally click too many times.
Clicking on these activates a randomly selected skill, with the exceptions of Energize and Reload. This bonus will activate even if the skill has yet to be unlocked or has a cool down. If a skill is activated, there is no loss of idle bonuses, with the exception of Clickstorm.
Rubies
Rubies are the premium currency in Clicker Heroes. They can be purchased using real money any time from the Shop. They are also randomly rewarded to players in clickables. 1 to 2 Rubies will randomly be awarded in clickables in addition to the bonus gold. Revolc, Ancient of Luck, as well as some Relics, can increase the chance of 2 rubies being rewarded. Developers occasionally publish limited-user promo codes for free rubies on the official Twitter page and/or Reddit page. Promo codes can be redeemed by clicking the "Redeem" button in the bottom right corner of the Options menu.

Clicker Heroes Playthrough
Early Game (Ascension #1 - #5)
Starting out in Clicker Heroes, you will have only a few things open to you. Your stats screen, achievements, the monster you're expected to click on a few times to kill with Cid, The Helpful Adventurer. You must start out clicking whatever monsters appear on the right until you kill 5 of them. At this point you can hire Cid to raise your base click damage. Once you kill 5 more monsters, floor 2 will be unlocked and you should click that floor and move there as you will get slightly stronger enemies and progress further into the game. You may notice you now have a new hero available to hire for 50 gold. It is suggested to get Cid to level 10 before buying Treebeast as heroes generally have upgrades for you to buy at level 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, and for Cid, 150. Leveling heroes will cost more and more gold as their level grows. At this point you probably already have the early achievements that involve killing a few monsters and clicking a couple of times. You will get more periodically for doing certain tasks. The further you progress into the floors the higher HP monsters you will face and the higher gold you will gain per kill. At floor 5 you will be faced with the first boss. There is a boss every 5 floors and they all have a 30 second time limit for you to kill them. If you can't kill the boss quick enough, you will re-enter the boss floor and the boss will have full HP again. You can try as many times as needed to kill bosses. After you have upgraded your Heroes sufficiently to pass the first boss you will see the pattern of levels repeat, with four levels where you must clear ten monsters followed by a boss level. This pattern continues throughout the rest of the game.
You will do this until you reach deep into the floors. Remember to keep leveling the heroes until you've bought all the upgrades! Hold CRTL+Click to level a hero 100 times, Z+Click to level a hero 25 times and SHIFT+Click to level a hero 10 times. A general piece of advice for hiring and leveling Heroes is to level each Hero to level ten and purchase their upgrade before moving on to purchasing the next Hero. Continue doing this until you have five Heroes at level ten, then return back to your first hero and Increase their level to 100 and purchase their upgrades. Learn the powers you get. They are activated by pressing number keys and often especially synergize. 8-7-1-2-3-4-5 is your friend. They have varying cool down times so learn which one combo together. A word on dark ritual... It's not as powerful as it looks until much, much later. It used to be really important and it still has something of a reputation, especially the 8-6-9 combo known as EDR or Energized Dark Ritual Reload. This combo had value, but not for now. Don't get obsessed with it.
Your journey here is far from over. You may notice that the monsters you're fighting are getting harder to kill, taking longer to slay even with your new heroes and upgrades. This is intended. By now you should have Amenhotep at around level 75 and the level 50 upgrade purchased. You will see that unlocked at level 150, quite the jump, is the "ASCENSION" ability. This is where you are headed. At this point, or very soon after, you will see 'Ascend for +1 Hero Souls' above your heroes in the upper right corner of the interface. You earned this HS from leveling your heroes up a total of 2000 times. Keep progressing to level 100 and you will fight a Centennial boss with a guaranteed reward of 1 Hero Soul every time you kill him in that world. From now on, each boss you face has a 25% chance to be Primal and give you a few Hero Souls when you kill it. These will be your main staple for HS in the future. Every 10 floors you beat from then on (Floor 100) will also award you a Gild for a random hero. These will give that hero a +50% damage boost and stacks as many times as you have gilds. When you get at least 5 Hero Souls (some suggest a minimum of 8) you should use that Ascension ability. It will prompt you with a warning that you will have all of your heroes lost but will gain those HS. It is worth it! Ascend and your goal is to do the exact same thing you did the first time, only faster. Don't worry, it gets fancy soon, but we need to build some hero souls first. Your objective in the early game is saving up Hero Souls!
Although the start of the game first few runs is painfully slow, but the game will gradually go faster definitely. After a while you'll get to zone 100 easily, then level 200, and so on. If I remember correctly, it took me around 100 days to get to level 1000 in twelve minutes. If progress seems slow, just remember it will get better "soon". It might help to ask other players how many days they have been playing and to what level they get in how much time. For me, it took about a day to get my first 4 HS. I didn't know the proper strategy at the time. From there I took only about 3-4 hours per ascension, doubling what I had each run for some time. You will likely need to use your abilities to pass bosses without waiting for great amounts of time to farm gold to upgrade your Heroes instead. Before using them, let one pass of the boss occur and note how much damage was done to the boss. If damage of more than half of the bosses health was done, then just use the first two abilities Clickstorm and Powersurge to defeat the boss. If more than a quarter, but less than half of a boss's health was done in damage you will need to use the third ability Lucky Strikes in conjunction with the first two abilities. If less than a quarter, but more than an eighth of the bosses health was damaged, you will need to use the seventh ability Super Clicks along with the prior three abilities. If you are not doing at least an eighth of the bosses health in damage you will likely have to go back a level and farm some gold to upgrade your Heroes before trying again.
Pro-Tip: Make sure you save manually often, best is after every ascension! If the game is down, there are other sites where you can play Clicker Heroes, but you'll need to import your game there. To save, simply click on the wrench icon (top right corner) and click on the save button.
Mid Game (Ascension #6 - #75)
You are now the owner of around 80+ Hero Souls. Each soul gives you +10% DPS to all of your heroes (adds it to your base) and makes progressing back up to where you were, and higher, much quicker. Now take a quick look at the Ancients tab. Ancients are special permanent buff that you purchase, who stay with you, even after you ascend. They break the game wide open in varying unique ways. To buy and upgrade ancients, you need souls. A lot of souls! Get the right ancient after your ascensions can get you moving along faster. At these points you should invest and summon Vaagur, Ancient of Impatience. This will lower the cooldown of all of your abilities by up to 75% when fully upgraded, which costs 45 HS from purchase to maxed out.
Progress through the game once more, meet new, stronger heroes, and when the monsters seem too beefy to continue ascend again. In this Clicker Heroes guide, it is suggested to only ascend if you will get at least 150% of the HS you got last run, or 50% more. If you can make that number, even bigger, all the better! Continue to ascend with ever increasing HS values until you have a few hundred. It will start to get difficult to keep up with what was mentioned above, seeing as Frostleaf is hard to level and Dread Knight is miles away, which you will not be able to afford on this run. This is where you go back to Treebeast, as weird as it seems, and level him to 1000 or 1025. This will put his DPS to that of or greater than Frostleaf's. You will then work your way down the heroes again, leveling most of them to 1000 as the previous ones become obsolete to level. The reason is heroes, when they reach level 200, 225, 250, 275, etc. will get a 4x current hero DPS bonus; and on the 1000's (excluding 4000) gets a 10x current hero DPS bonus. Note that this bonus stops after the hero reaches level 4100. Repeat this for the other early Heroes, Ivan, Brittany, Samurai and Forest Seer. You will notice certain Heroes have been skipped, that is because they do not have a full set of damage upgrades so are less worthwhile investing in. This is where you get to start choosing your path to go on. You can choose the style of idling, where your heroes do the work for you and you need to just come back every once and a while to level them up and buy upgrades because of the auto progression feature. Or, you can choose the Active method where you focus on the game and click a lot of times. You may use an autoclicker but some people don't like to/people that do.
Before we get into the main things to get for each path I will mention some Ancients that are good for both paths:
- Vaagur, Lower the cooldown of all of your skills.
- Kumawakamaru, Lowers the monsters you need to kill to reach the next floor.
- Mammon, Increases gold drops from all monsters.
- Dora, Increases Treasure Chest appearance chance.
- Dogcog, Lowers the price to upgrade and hire heroes by up to 50%.
- Mimzee, Increases gold from Treasure Chests by +50% gold per level.
- Atman, Increases Primal chance.
- Solomon, Increases Hero Souls from Primal bosses.
- Fortuna, Gives a chance to give 10x gold from each kill. Works on chests and the clickable foods.
- Argaiv, Increases bonus of Gilds by 2% each level.
- Bubos, Lowers boss HP by up to 50%.
Active Build
This method focuses entirely on how many times you can click per second and how focused you can be on what is going on. You will be using just about if not every ability that you have at your disposal along with specific ancients to boost your click and critical click damage through the roof. While click damage in important, as you progress into this build your Critical clicks will do upwards of 1000x more damage than both your normal clicks and DPS combined. It is important to have all of the upgrades purchased for every hero, especially the ones that give you +5% more clicks damage from your DPS and ones that boost Critical clicks in any way.
Key ancients for this build:
- Juggernaut, Increases your damage based on how many stacks you get. (It is expected that you will be using an autoclicker.)
- Fragsworth, Increases click damage by 20% per level.
- Bhaal, Increases Critical Click damage by 15% per level.
- Pluto, Increases the gold gained from Golden Clicks by 30% per level.
- Thusia, Increases chest health when Golden Clicks are active, 100% more HP per level.
- Every ancient that boosts the duration of your abilities.
Remember to always be clicking. If you wait more than 10 seconds your stacks will degrade at around 5% per second until you have 0. It should be noted that this method can go on forever if you want to leave the game autoclicking overnight, but it starts to become lacking in returns as Juggernaut is additive and not multiplicative. A good ascending point is when it takes over 50-70 critical clicks to kill an enemy (non-boss), can't kill the boss, or reach 100,000 stacks. Past 100k stacks and there is very little benefit from extra stacks that is noticeable. Fragsworth is good for raising your base click damage to more than that of your base DPS, work will be in conjunction with Juggernaut. When you get this ancient, Pluto, to level 331 you will be getting 100% of the monsters gold every time you click it. It works wonders on chests as you will go straight to whatever your maximum gold should be for the floor you're on in seconds. Only buy Thusia once you have leveled Pluto accordingly, otherwise it is just getting in your way. I suggest not going overboard with this Ancient as you still want to be able to kill the chest. Just have it strong enough to get clicked about 2000 times and that should be good enough to level up a couple of times. If you do make your chests invincible, either wait out the Golden Clicks timer or re-enter the area by clicking on it again.
The next component to this method is the abilities that you will be using. Assuming you have them all unlocked already, start by using Energize, Dark Ritual, then Reload. This will give you 10% more DPS and give Dark Ritual a 1 hour cooldown instead of 2 hours. (Hotkeys 8,6,9) Next start using, Powersurge, Lucky Strikes, Metal Detector, Golden Clicks, and Super Clicks. (Hotkeys 2,3,4,5,7) You should already have your Autoclicker up and running. Using these abilities almost ensures that you will crush the next 40 areas. Take note of the timings and spam them as much as possible.
- Every 2.5 minutes use Powersurge.
- Every 7.5 Minutes use Powersurge, Lucky Strikes and Metal Detector. (Hotkeys 2,3,4)
- Every 15 Minutes use Powersurge, Lucky Strikes, Metal Detector, Energize, Super Clicks. (Hotkeys 2,3,4,8,7). You can use Energize on either Powersurge or Super Clicks, I don't think it makes any difference. As for Golden clicks, you may use it if you wish. I like to save it for chests I come across and use Reload for when I do use Golden clicks to be ready for the next chest I need to get a ton of money from.
Idle Build
Before we get into this method, we need to define what the Idle mode is. Idle mode is activated once you have not clicked the monsters for one minute (60s) or used any abilities for 60s. If your abilities last for more than 60 seconds, their duration will not stop idle mode from activating so you can get those last seconds to work in conjunction with idle mode. It's not suggested to use abilities more than just after starting. The key thing with the idle method is that you must not click on the monsters. You can still click on the food that appears without the idle status breaking, but you must click right on them and only once. Other than making sure you don't break the idle timer, all you have to worry about is leveling up your heroes enough to keep going through the floors. Some players have it in idle mode for the entire time, but use all of their abilities (usually 8-wait-1-8-7-2-3) when they fight bosses, because abilities will still give a DPS boost if used in mass quantities.
This method focuses on letting your heroes do everything for you, and using the game's Idle status for your benefit. You will need a few key ancients to get this method rolling:
- Siyalatas, Increases DPS during idle.
- Libertas, Increases gold gained during idle.
- Chronos, Increases boss timer by 5 seconds per level. (This is good for both builds, but I think the idle method benefits from it more.)
Hybrid Build (Idle & Active)
Sometimes a mix of both methods can be good, I called it Hybrid Build. If you feel like you aren't making any progress in getting more HS, you can try using this method. Start by using the Idle method for a few hours, resetting every hour or so and just accumulate HS, to get past the first chunk of floors (1k-2k) then use the Active method for the rest of what you can reach. Should take about an hour to two on active method and you will double the HS from just the idle method alone. By then you will probably have gotten a good amount (compared to what you had before) and can progress further or buy/upgrade more ancients.
Late Game (Ascension #75 and beyond....)
By now you have accumulated hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Hero Souls and don't know what to do. If you haven't gotten every non-floor achievement, I suggest getting those. Sometimes leveling your ancients isn't always the best thing to do when each leveling is not longer cost effective anymore. Holding onto a bunch of HS might sometimes be better just to give you some raw DPS bonus, or leveling Morgulis for a little extra. If you haven't already purchased and max out Khrysos to make each ascension quicker with 100B gold given right to you at the start of each ascension. For those who have done all of that, it is suggested to start investing into Iris. Iris will let you skip going through the early floors as far as you level it. While you may not want to lose out of those HS you get from F100, 105, etc, it will become meaningless to get those as the first 300 Primal floors will net only a few thousand HS when you get over 70k per run. The time saved is more valuable than those few souls.
Ancients to keep investing into are:
1, The ones key to the build you chose to use. (For player that uses both build, will be leveling them all).
2. Argaiv. This becomes very, very useful late game when you have over 200 gilds that you can put onto one hero. (Frostleaf, or one of the Rangers, like Alabaster, who comes into use right after Frostleaf hits his max potential)
3. Morgulis. Dump most of your remaining souls into him. He gives a flat 10% boost for all the HS you bank into him. (Turns each HS into giving 11% more DPS instead of 10%)
Touching a bit on relics. The stats of relics are generated randomly. There are so many possible combinations, that you will see most combinations only once. And you will never see most of the possible combination as well. So the question we should ask ourselves isn’t: “What is the best relic?”. It seems, that the rarity of an item currently doesn’t change anything at all. Only item level and stat distribution are, what matters at the moment. Which relic is better, highly depends on your current situation. If you’re a freshman and find a relic with a 200% bonus to gold dropped, it might feel like you will never exchange this relic, because it cripples your gold income. But the thing is, that relics don’t work multiplicative. They just add to a specific ancient which in this case it’s Mammon. So as soon as you acquire Mammon, this relic will rapidly decrease in value. Basically, you want these abilities below in your relics as much as possible.
Top Tier
1. + % Chance of Primal Bosses
2. - % Hero Hiring and Level-Up cost
3. + % Chance of Double Rubies
Middle Tier
1. + Duration (Lucky Strikes being best)
2. + % Primal Hero Souls
3. + % Chance of 10x Gold
Juggling your Gilds as you reach the late floors. Each hero's multipliers only last until level 4100, and level 4000 doesn't get a 10x multiplier, only 4x. As mentioned above, Alabaster is able to be gotten when Frostleaf is just about to hit 4000 and will push you through another 200-300 levels, at which you will need to toss all of the Gilds you moved to Alabaster onto Astraea. After getting Astraea, you can go for a deep run. The purpose of deep runs at this level are to pick up more gilded heroes and HS. However, deeper runs can really slow down your overall progression. The exception is when you don't have time to do a fast run. Obviously, you can't ascend every couple hours while sleeping, so you're pretty much forced into at least one long run every day, which is fine. But spending a full day (a day where you can play) on a single run is a bad idea, and some people even spend several days on one deep run.
Congratulations, you can now experiment and play around with the build! :)
Using Iris Guide
Think getting Iris was a bad idea? Everyone thought so, too, but with the appearance of candies, the use of Iris couldn't be easier. The game spawns little things like ice cubes, sweaters, snowflakes (depending on the game update or the season, these will look different). These rewards appear randomly on your screen, and by clicking them you are given the same amount of gold as you would beat a monster at the highest level you've unlocked.
If you're able to ascend at the late 1000s to early 2000s, you'll probably notice that you're ascensions take at least an hour, maybe 2 hours even. At this stage of the game, having Iris isn't a bad idea. This ancient will significantly reduce the your ascensions time, making for quicker Hero Soul farming. So before you ascend, make sure that you upgrade your iris to 600 and a candy on screen. Do not click the candy yet! This is because you want that candy to stay there when you ascend. Candies don't disappear when you ascend, just so you guys know.
When you've ascend (start) at floor 600, just click on the candy, get your gold, activate progression mode, then level your highest (most gilded) hero. You will enjoy having one of these to start off with. It saves a nice chunk of time! Iris costs a lot to level, but will be very beneficial in the long run since the time needed for ascensions will be reduced by quite a lot. In my opinion, I stop my iris at 600.
