Titanfall – Tips & Tricks

The upcoming first-person shooter Titanfall has garnered a lot of attention. Its unique gameplay and stellar graphics have already made it a hit, and the game has won several awards. If you are planning on getting this game on PC or Xbox at release, check out our guide to get ready. We’ve got some tips and tricks to help you get into the game right away!

Titanfall

Burn Cards

After you gain a couple levels, Burn Cards become available. These cards will let the player use a special bonus or power-up. Pick the best card that suits your play style to get the best advantage.

Calling in Your Titan

Call in your Titan at the right time – not just when you can. Wait for the right opportunity, such as when another player calls in an enemy Titan or if enemy players are all grouped up. You can defeat enemies by air dropping your Titan right on top of them. This can take out enemy players, Grunts, and other Titans instantly. You can also travel to an area with no other players to sneakily call in your mech.

Defeating Grunts

Grunts are fairly weak and easy to defeat. They are very slow, AI controlled enemies that spawn on the map. Killing them gets you a small amount of points and lets you call in your Titan sooner. However, every time you fire at a Grunt, your position gets lit up on your enemy’s mini map! So, don’t go overboard hunting Grunts. If they are in your way or if you need just a bit more to call in your Titan, go for it. But don’t waste the game hunting these weaklings.

Defeating Players

Players can be hard to find, since enemy players and AI controlled Grunts look similar. You need to use your mini-map to discern the difference. Grunts have a specific small dot icon on the map. Enemy players will appear as a big red circle. This circle means an enemy player is firing their weapon in that area. Approach carefully and take out enemy players for points. Defeating enemy players gets you a lot more points than taking out little Grunts.

Defeating Titans

Titans are powerful machines that can quickly wreak havoc. You and your team will want to take them out ASAP. There are a few ways to do this:

  • Gather your team and attack the Titan all at once. You can overwhelm the enemy with this tactic.

  • Call in your own Titan. You can also have your team call in their Titans, resulting in a giant mech war.

  • Call in your Titan, but let it pilot itself. Then, you can sneak around and plan your attack.

Dodging

Just because your Titan is big doesn’t mean that you can’t dodge. Use buildings to shield you from attacks, or bend down to avoid heavy gunfire.

Keep Moving

Try not to stay in a certain position for too long, especially if you have fired your weapon. Other players will be able to find out your position and can come in for the kill. Keep moving to hide your position. It is much harder to kill a moving target!

Protect the Titans

If your teammate calls in their Titan, protect them. Titans are super powerful, and by helping them survive you can ensure they do the most damage possible to the enemy. You can ride on the Titan if you want to stay with them.

Read the Environment

Titanfall has a unique free-running aspect that allows players to get around the environment in different ways. You can use walls and buildings to reach locations faster. Running and jumping combos can even be achieved. Figure out how you can travel around in order to gain an advantage against the enemy.

Shields

Each Titan has a shield that regenerates over time. To ensure your Titan lasts as long as possible, keep an eye on it. If you are getting overwhelmed, retreat. Find a place out of combat to let your shield recharge fully. Then get back into the fray.

Use Your Special Ability

Each player can use a special ability. You only start with Cloak, but more abilities are unlocked as you level up. Use your special ability often, as it will recharge fairly quickly. Don’t forget about it – these abilities can be very useful in your match!

Vantage Points

The Titanfall maps are full of buildings and structures the player can use to their advantage. Try climbing up to a rooftop or sneaking around the corner to take your enemy by surprise. Make a habit of exploring each map until you are familiar with the best spots.

Weak Spots

You don’t need to have your Titan in order to take out an enemy Titan. A single player can take out a mech with the right approach. For example, players can sneak up behind a Titan to shoot it in the back or climb inside and destroy the vulnerable insides.

Work Together

Working as a team is the best chance for victory. Communicate with your squad so you can work together. Help your teammate out if they have an enemy on their Titan's back, or get a lift instead. Plan ahead with your teammates so you can call your Titans in at the same time or plan to ambush an enemy.
