Mario Kart 8 – Unlockables Guide

The new Mario Kart game has plenty of things to unlock. In addition to offering a variety of characters, Mario Kart 8 also has new karts, kart parts, an alternate mode, stamps, and even some unique credits. If you want to unlock everything possible, check out our guide to see what's available.

Alternate Ending Credits

You can watch some alternate ending credits with different music if you get gold in every Mirror Mode race and 150cc race. 

Alternate Title Screens

You can unlock different title screens for single player and multiplayer by getting gold in every Mirror Mode and 150cc race.

Gold Karts and Parts

To get the gold kart, glider, and tires, you need to complete some special tasks.

• Gold Glider – To get the glider, you need to collect a whopping 10,000 coins. 

• Gold Standard Kart – Get at least one star on every standard Grand Prix and Mirror Mode race. To get a star, you must be 1st in at least 3 of the 4 races.

• Gold Tires – To unlock these, you need to defeat every staff ghost in the Time Trials. 

Mirror Mode

You can unlock a new game mode called Mirror Mode by getting a gold trophy on all 8 Grand Prix races. In Mirror Mode, the courses are completely reversed!

Stamps

You can unlock various stamps throughout the game. Character stamps are unlocked by completing a cup with the respective character. Course stamps can be unlocked by beating the Nintendo record on any course in Time Trial Mode.

Vehicles and Parts

Collect the coins scattered along the race track to unlock karts and customization parts. Karts are unlocked after you get a certain amount of coins. You'll start by unlocking them at 50 coin intervals, but it will then increase to 100 coin intervals after you collect 1000 coins.
