Super Smash Bros. General Tips & Tricks Guide

Super Smash Bros. has long been a staple of Nintendo's lineup. The newest entry in the series is for both Wii U and 3DS, and it adds a lot to this beloved game series! Whether you are new to the series or have been a fan for many years, we've compiled some useful tips and tricks to help you make the most of your Super Smash Bros. experience.

Nintendo: Smash Bros., Pokémon OR/AS and amiibo fare well in the U.S.

Beetles

If an opponent throws a beetle at you, you can attack it to make it return to whoever used it.

Boxing Ring

In the Boxing Ring stage, you can use the ropes to launch yourself high up into the air. You can get high enough to reach the lights. You can then knock these lights down in order to hurt enemies below!

Directional Influence

This skill lets you control where your character goes when they get launched or moved by another player. This is incredibly important to master, as it can help keep you from getting Kod..To use this technique, move the control stick where you want to go while in the air. You can also use the tap/smash technique, which controls where you move while you are attacked. You need to tap the control stick in the right direction in order to move away. Finally, you can use your momentum to get back down to the stage ASAP. Do use this skill, use a quick aerial attack and then either jump or use down on the control stick.

Equipment

Always make sure you are equipping your characters. This will give you a huge advantage. If you have one bonus that you want to really focus on, equip multiple pieces that will give that area a boost.

Golden Plains

In the Golden Plains stage, you can collect 100 coins to turn your character gold. When you are gold, you become stronger and have more defense.

Jumping on Opponents

If you jump on the head of an opponent, you can use them like a springboard! Furthermore, if the opponent is in the head, you will knock them back down to the ground.

Ledge Attacks

Unlike previous games in the series, grabbing a ledge twice in a row does not make your character invincible. This means you can take advantage of this in order to knock an enemy down and seriously hurt them while they are on the ledge. Just be careful that you don't get attacked yourself.

Low Jumps

If you don't want to jump to your full height, just gently tap the jump button. This will make you jump only slightly, allowing you to use an air attack on opponents still on the ground.

Perfect Pivoting

This technique will give you an edge, as it allows you to move quickly and effectively. To perform a perfect pivot, dash one way and then quickly flick the control stick in the opposite direction. When you do this, your character will slide along the ground quickly. Each character can pivot a certain distance – Captain Falcon will travel the longest, while Jigglypuff doesn't go very far.

Star Fox Easter Egg

Just like in Super Smash Bros. Melee, there are some Easter eggs available with Fox and Falco in the Corneria stage. Press up and down on the taunt buttons quickly to unlock the hidden Easter eggs!

Vary Your Attacks

If you continue to use the same type of attack over and over again, it will get less effective. Vary your attacks in order to keep them at full strength
