Grand Theft Auto 5 Pulls in $800 Million on Launch Day, Sets New Record

The numbers are out for the GTA V launch day sales, and they have set a new video game launch day record of $800 million in sales, which beats the previous record set by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 by a whole $300 million.

Those are some major numbers, especially since Black Ops 2 is a widely popular game.

To put it into perspective, the cost to produce and market the game was roughly $265 million, so that’s a net profit $535 million on day one.

I’d like to own a company that pulls in a profit of $535 in a single day. I suppose that since the game has been in production since 2008 that it’s a profit of $535 million over the past five years, but still.. it’s impressive.

Honestly I’m not overly surprised by these numbers. They have been marketing this game very well, slowly releasing tidbits of information, and making sure the fans of the series know about the features they’ve been requesting for years.

This just goes to show that the gaming market is still thriving, and that gamers still like spending their hard earned money on good games.
