As with just about every Xbox Live Arcade game available (except maybe Wik: Fable of Souls), Feeding Frenzy is an exercise in basic game design. Stripped down to core elements, Feeding Frenzy challenges you to do two things: eat fish smaller than you and avoid getting eaten by bigger fish. While you're chomping and evading other chompers, you can pick up all kinds of little under-sea doodads, like score-boosting starfish or extra lives and the like.
Where Feeding Frenzy will devour your heart is the positively darling animations that put a friendly, cuddly face on the horrors of life in the wild. Crunch down on your fellow fish, and a little word balloon pops up with comic sound effects like "GULP!" and "YUM!" ... it's hilarious. Add to that the satisfaction of growing into a titanic trawler of the ocean, scarfing up giants of the sea like sharks, and you've got an entrancing yet totally casual game.
