Osmos needs little in the way of introduction. This is one of the best-known ambient games out there. You’re a tiny little bubble that needs to assimilate other bubbles and grow to become the largest. You move about by ejecting particles, which also makes you smaller. You can control the passage of time (make it go faster or slower). The ambient soundtrack is addictive on its own, and combined with the gameplay, you get a truly wonderful experience.
Get it now—seriously. And share the joy with your friends, because this sale may not last long.
A futuristic side-scrolling shooter featuring… dragons. Four kinds of them, too. This is not a very well-known game, and now is a good chance to get to know it for half off. The soundtrack is fun, and the graphics are reminiscent of classic side-scrolling shmups (shoot’em ups).
A real-time strategy title with an interesting look. I wouldn’t call it pixelated or retro — it looks more like a top-down view at a Lego set. The subtle shading makes the topography “pop” — it’s very easy to see where the hills and valleys are. The subject matter is as unique as the graphical style: It’s about firefighting. So it’s a fighting game, yes, but your enemy is fire, not other people or countries. An interestingly peaceful take on the genre.
Writing this column can be expensive, since almost every week I end up buying something myself. I already own Osmos HD, so this week I just had to get Handy Photo. I’m a sucker for advanced image editing apps, and while Snapseed is both free and advanced I have to say that Handy Photo looks even more sophisticated. If you’re not satisfied with Instagram’s heavy-handed editing, Handy Photo might be what you’re after.
Android and iTunes aren’t always the best of friends. TuneSync helps them get along better: It lets you sync your iTunes music files, playlists, and album are to your Android device — and it does so using Wi-Fi, so no cables required.
