Android Apps on Sale, 25 April: Batman meets Apparatus

Each week we scour current Google Play promotions and cherry-pick the best of the best. This week Batman makes an appearance, as does classic physics game Apparatus, epic match-three RPG game 10000000, and more.

Because app sales are temporary affairs, by the time you read this, these may no longer be on sale. Worry not: Simply check back next week for some more Android deals!

The Dark Knight Rises ($6.99, now $0.99)

This is one franchise that needs little in the way of introduction — and at 86% off, it’s even harder to resist. Note that it’s paid but also has in-app purchases, which is a no-no for some gamers (understandably so). At the end of the day, though, you get to be Batman, and for many people that’s worth the price of admission (especially now that it’s so low).

The Room Two ($2.99, now $1.40)

The original game in the series, The Room, is one of the best-reviewed “escape” games in recent memory. Its sequel is just as impressive, garnering an incredible 4.9-star average out of over 40,000 reviews.

With cinematic graphics, smooth, sweeping transitions, and an artful retro look, The Room Two sucks you right in. This is one well-executed atmospheric puzzle game.

Out There ($3.99, now $1.99)

A beautiful space exploration/survival game where you travel the galaxy, exploit resources, and uncover new technologies. Features eight spaceships, three possible endings for the storyline, and a crafting system with 20 alien technologies. Notably, there is no combat in the game, which is a good thing in my book. The Play Store description for the game specifically warns that this is a hard one, so beware.

The Cave ($4.99, now $1.99)

The most notable thing about adventure game The Cave is its prodigy: It comes from Ron Gilbert, the guy behind old-time classic The Secret of Monkey Island, and Double Fine – the guys behind funky rhythm game Dropchord. It’s a side-scroller, and you move from puzzle to puzzle. You can switch between seven characters, each with its own personality, talent, and motivation.

10000000 ($2.99, now $0.99)

Match-three meets RPG meets retro-pixel graphics. Yes, that sounds weird, but it makes for a strangely compelling game — at least judging by the rave reviews. With a 4.6-star average on Google Play based on over 6,000 reviews, this is one game you don’t have to be a hardcore match-three fan to enjoy.

Apparatus ($2.49, now $0.96)

Apparatus is not a new game, but it’s something of a classic. You get to build complicated contraptions using boards, wheels, motors, cables, batteries, and more. If you’re a Lego fan, you may well enjoy Apparatus.

Principia ($3.59, now $0.99)

Apparatus has a sequel! With a strong robotics/electronics theme, this one is sure to please Arduino lovers. Just like the original Apparatus, you build complicated structures — but here, you can control gravity. There are levels to work through, but the sandbox mode comes highly recommended.

Apps (Or Just One App, This Time)

CamScanner ($4.99, now $0.79)

Point your phone at a document, snap a photo, turn it into a nice-looking PDF you can save or send to anyone. Straightens pages, corrects contrast and colors, and just plain works. Even supports OCR over PDF files.
