Which Games Console Do You Currently Own? [MakeUseOf Poll]

With E3 2014 having been and gone, gamers of all descriptions now know what games they can look forward to playing over the next 12 months. If you are a gamer, then it’s time to stand up for your platform of choice by telling us which console you currently own and why you chose it over the competition.

Two Years Is Too Long

To answer this week’s question please scroll down the page until you see the poll staring back at you. But first, we need to look at the results from last week, when we asked, “How Often Do You Upgrade Your Smartphone?

Out of a total of 1,903 votes, 2.8% chose Every Six Months, 6.5% chose Every Year, 7% chose Every 18 Months, 38.2% chose Every Two Years, 18.1% chose Every Three Years Or More, 23.5% chose Only When Absolutely Necessary, and 4% chose Smartphone, What Smartphone?

It’s unsurprising to see “Every Two Years” winning out, as that’s the standard length of a mobile contract. However, with smartphones evolving at a rate of knots, two years is a long time to wait before upgrading to the latest and greatest model.

Those of you who wait three years or more must be potently patient people. Those of you who upgrade only when absolutely necessary will, I guess, be good with money. And those who haven’t yet got a smartphone clearly took my advice on the matter.

Comment Of The Week

We received a lot of great comments, including those from Peter F, Hunter Wesson, and BV. Comment Of The Week goes to Deborah Graham, who won with this comment:

In the past (who can predict the future?), we have skipped a version. I was even, my son was odd and Dad gets the hand me down as we switch to a new phone. Somehow right now, we both have iPhone 5 versions (and Dad has our son’s old iPhone 4), so one of us (oh, that would be ME) gets the iPhone 6 next. :-) Or, depending on the new features and timing, we might both get the iPhone 6 and we’ll be in sync and Dad will get his choice of our “obsolete” iPhone 5 phones. We usually ignore the “mini” versions, 4S, 5S, 5C…not enough changes to make it worth the switch.

We chose this comment as it was the only one to make mention of passing older phones on to other people. This is something a lot more of us should be doing to help solve the growing problem of electronic waste. The only dilemma is deciding who should get the latest model!

Pride Of Place Under Your TV

More people than ever now play video games, and the industry surrounding video games is growing to compete with the movie and music industries. With this in mind, we want to find out all about your platform of choice.

We cannot possibly list all of the games consoles you may have sitting under your TV, so we’re limiting this poll to home consoles from the current generation and last generation of hardware. We’ve also allowed for PC gamers and retro gamers to take part.

If you own more than one of the consoles listed in the poll then just choose the one you play the most. This is all about the hardware that has pride of place under your television set, so if a console is sitting there dusty and unloved it doesn’t deserve your vote.

Please let us know which home games console you currently own by voting in the poll above, and then take to the comments below to explain your reasons for choosing this hardware over all of the other hardware available to you.

Remember, there’s an awesome T-shirt available to the person responsible for the coveted Comment Of The Week.
