Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition - How to Remove the 30 FPS Framerate Cap

Dead Rising 3 Framerate Guide

Capcom has decided to lock the framerate for Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition on PC to 30 frames-per-second. However, despite the optimization issues if you tweak the settings and have a powerful enough PC you can get it up to 60 if it weren’t for the lock. This means that the power of your PC might not be put its full use, keeping you locked at sub-60 FPS. Luckily, there is an easy way to get around the lock and start slaughtering zombies in glorious 60 FPS. Here’s how:

  • Navigate to the Windows directory where your game is stored
  • This should be under Program Files (x86)->Steam->steamapps->common->deadrising3 but you can find it if that doesn’t seem to work
    • To do this in Steam just right click the game in your library and choose Properties
    • Click the Local Files tab and select Browse Local Files
  • You should see deadrising3.exe in this folder
  • Right click anywhere and select New->New Text Document
    • This will create a notepad file which you will now edit
  • Open the new file and enter this text without the quotation marks “gmpcr_unlock_frame_rate = True”
  • Now click File->Save as and save the file as user.ini
    • Make sure you are altering the actual file extension so that it is not named user.ini.txt
    • You can check this by looking at the file in the Windows browser
    • If you do not see file extensions hit Alt and click Tools->Folder Options
    • In the new window select View and uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”
    • You can now see if it is user.ini.txt and remove the .txt if it is

That should be it. If you did everything right the 30 FPS lock will be gone the next time you launch Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition. From what I have seen while testing this doesn’t totally remove the framerate lock. It seems to just raise it to 60 instead. However, if your PC can handle it, this is a vast improvement over the 30 FPS limit.
