Father Gascoigne is the second boss you might encounter while playing Bloodborne. This is a tough looking cowboy dude that you have to fight in a graveyard.
Before you go ahead and fight Father Gascoigne, you better be prepared first. I was stuck in Bloodborne for many hours until I found out you have to make use with the items that are given to you. Hacking and slashing by itself is not really effective on its own.
For this boss fight, I made sure to stock up on both Throwing Knives and Molotov Cocktails. Throwing Knives cost 100 Blood Echoes, and you can stock up to nine of them. Molotov Cocktails cost 180 Blood Echoes and you can have up to 10 of them. Both items are really helpful against Father Gascoigne, and they are great to have in Bloodborne in general.
The other item that you need is lots of Blood Vials. These things replenish your health and you can have up to 20 of them. Kill as many enemies as you can so you can spend all your Blood Echoes on Blood Vials, Throwing Knives and Molotov Cocktails.
A small cutscene occurs when you first encounter Father Gascoigne in Bloodborne. After that, he will shoot you immediately if you take a crack at him for a second time or more. When you enter the fight, be sure to press Circle at the exact moment you enter to avoid getting hit. His guns take up a lot of damage.
Another thing you have to look out for are his sword attacks. He hacks and slashes like crazy whenever you get near him. If you go too far, he will start shooting at you. Your best friend at this stage of the fight is the Circle button.
When you see an opening, be sure to chuck some throwing knives at him from a safe distance. It’s best to throw the knives from a mid-range distance. I threw all nine of my knives at him and this took a huge amount of his health bar.
If you run out of knives, don’t worry as you can start hacking and slashing at him at this stage. Don’t use your Molotov Cocktails yet, as you will need them for the latter stage of this Bloodborne fight. Just keep dodging his knife attacks and slash him whenever you can. If you get hit, just press Triangle constantly to regain your health.
When Father Gascoigne is down to a third of his health left, he will turn bigger and more stronger. Don’t worry though, because this is where you can throw all of your Molotov Cocktails at him. Just press R3 to lock on and then press Square to throw it at his face. The Molotov Cocktails should be enough to take him down fully.
After he goes down, another save checkpoint opens up for you. You can now go up the stairs and open up the gate that will take you to the next area of the game.
This was my own technique on beating Father Gascoigne in Bloodborne. It took me several tries to discover the best way to beat this guy. Feel free to leave any comments for your own advice on beating him.
