Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 can be a hard game. One of the more difficult parts is to get the Sick Scores that literally require you to get millions of points. We’re here to help you out.
Getting high points does not happen overnight. It’s something that requires a lot of practice and knowledge about how the game works. Most of the strategies I adopted I previously used in the older games.
Bear in mind, I’m not the best Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 player in the world, but I can manage to pull out 1 million point combos and managed to get the sick scores in all of the levels in the game.
Air Combos
First of all, you need to know the basics of getting a high score. You may have noticed in the Tutorial there is a small part that teaches you to manual, revert and then execute an air trick or grind. Chaining all of these tricks all in one combo is the recipe to getting high scores.
The first thing I usually do is earn my special bar. Special moves add more points to your total and it’s good to do them early before your points start to decrease. An easy 15,000 points should be enough to fill the special bar.
After that, I usually like to surround myself with quarter pipes or be inside of a pool. Initiate a special when you ride up the quarter pipe, then revert and do a manual when you ride back down. Manual to the other side of the quarter pipe and repeat this method several times over.
When you do this five or more times, you will see a multiplier next to the points you earn. The more tricks you do, the higher the multiplier is. Make sure to look out for the balance meter when you do a manual. If it’s not in the middle, you may end a combo early.
The other thing you have to do is grab and rotate. Holding a trick long enough adds more points as does the number of rotations you do. Also try to diverse your move list. Doing the same move over and over again decreases its value. If you do manual heaps of times, try doing a nose manual instead.
Grinds
If you are a street type of player, you may want to do lots of grinds instead. This is a little harder to do in my opinion because this depends on the type of level you are in. If you are going this route, I suggest you look around and see where the longest rails are.
Much like with manuals, look out for the balance meter. Try and wiggle the left stick to the middle so you don’t end a combo prematurely. Doing an ollie and changing up the grinds can also add to the multiplier and your points. Adding in flip tricks are also good while you’re doing grind combos too.
Apart from special grinds, the type of grind that I think that earns the most points are Bluntslides and Nose Bluntsides. You can do this by pressing down down triangle (Y on Xbox One) or up up triangle (Y on Xbox One) respectively.
Level specific advice
If you visit the Mega Park level, look out for the quarter pipes that have the large arrows on them. When you ride on them, they will give you a huge air boost. You can do lots of cool air tricks and rotations while you are flying high. These could give you lots of good points to earn the sick score in that level.
Arguably the worst level in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 in the Rooftops. I had no idea how to get 1.5 million points in this level, until I realized the wings gives you a double jump. Pressing X (A on Xbox One) twice gives you a double jump. Doing a double jump on a quarter pipe allows you to get more air for more points. Use this to your advantage. There should be a blue pool area in this level. This is where I got most of my points in.
Lastly there is the Asteroid Belt level. The key to get high points here is to skate over the blue liquid. This blue liquid gives you moon gravity. If you used the moon gravity cheat in the older Tony Hawk games, you’ll know what I am talking about.
Much like the other levels before it, Moon Gravity gives you more air time when riding up quarter pipes. Use this to rotate, do more tricks and hold your grabs for a longer period of time. The higher you go, the better your points will be. The sick score for this level is 5 million points, so the blue liquid makes your job a bit easier.
We hope this gives you all the advice you need to get high points in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. Just keep practicing and practicing and you will get better in time.
