Fallout 4 Guide: How to Make Caps the Easy Way

Fallout 4 How to Make Caps

Fallout 4 is a game that doesn’t really require you to buy that many items. Scrounging around, scavenging what you need is usually enough to get you by. However, the really good stuff, like the Overseer’s Rifle, the Big Boy mini-nuke launcher, or even some spare ammo if you are running low will require you to have some caps on hand to buy what you need. Sure, you can do it the hard way, finding them on Feral Ghoul bodies, or picking the locks on safes. There’s an easier way though, one that requires very little effort on your part, but will supply you with nearly infinite caps if you put in a little bit of time. So, here’s a quick guide on how to make caps the easy way in Fallout 4.

First off, the method here isn’t some cheat. There are glitches and cheats out there to get infinite caps, but I’m not going to go into them. Those break the game in many ways, making it so your experience might seem better at first, but in the end feels hollow and meaningless. Instead my method requires a bit of work up front, but will pay off in the end, creating a system that will always supply you with caps for your Fallout 4 experience.

First, bone up on the Workshop and how it functions as it’s important for how to make caps in Fallout 4. Once you’re ready you’ll want to head to Sanctuary as it’s the best settlement for this method. The plan is to generate tons of Purified Water, which can then be sold at around 7 caps a piece, depending on the perks you have setup for your Fallout 4 character.

Head to the river to the south and start building Industrial Water Purifiers in there. You’ll also need generators to power them, so check out that guide if you need help, and click here if you need some of the rarer resources. Mostly you’ll require oil, copper, ceramic, and screws, along with the common stuff like steel.

Build as many Industrial Water Purifiers as you can, along with the generators required to power them. Finally you’ll want to build defenses, as production will cease if you don’t have enough defense to cover everything in town. Build a few heavy defense turrets for each Industrial Water Purifier if you have the resources, but you can also supplement with artillery units and other methods of defense if you run out.

Once it’s all setup you should have a good water purification network going. Excess water will be stored in the Workshop station as Purified Water, which you’ll want to grab every day or two if you’re looking to maximize your cap production. If you have the Local Leader perk maxed out you can even build stores inside of Sanctuary, where you can sell or trade the Purified Water.

If you don’t have the resources necessary to set everything up properly just do your best and get some water going. After a while you should have enough Purified Water to sell off and buy the necessary resources, or just check our guide linked above to find rare stuff. Either way, after the heavy lifting is all done you should have all the Purified Water you need to sell, which will give you all the caps you might need to take on the Fallout 4 wasteland.
