Follow Frea out of the Temple of Miraak to the Skaal Village. It’s down the hill and to your right, you will see it when you come upon a wooden bridge.
Talk to Storn Crag-Strider in the Skaal Village. He instructs you to learn the Word of Power on the wall of Saering’s Watch, and updates your map with its location.
As you draw near to Saering’s Watch you will see a Serpentine Dragon overhead. This is a new type of dragon, added in the Dragonborn DLC, and is significantly stronger than Legendary Dragons. Those with Daedric items won’t have much trouble, and those without may want to incorporate the Draugr & Frost Trolls around Saering’s Watch – as well as their new Dragon Aspect shout – into their tactics. Once defeated, Miraak will appear and absorb the Serpentine Dragon’s soul, but you may remove loot from it.
At the top of Saering’s Watch you will find a wall with the word Earth from the Bend Will shout. Unlock it.
Head to the Wind Stone, marked on your map between Saering’s Watch and the Skaal Village, and use the Bend Will should on the stone. The earth will rumble, the Skaal people will be freed of whatever hold was over them, and a Lurker Guardian will appear.
Return to the Saal Village and speak with Storn Crag-Strider. Through conversation he will give you the Cleansing The Stones quest, but continue speaking with him about Miraak and the Black Book to complete The Fate of The Skaal quest and trigger The Path Of Knowledge quest.
The Path of Knowledge
Storn Crag-Strider suggests Neloth, a Dunmer wizard, may know the location of more Black Books and tells you to find him in Tel Mithryn, which will be marked on your map. If you want a relatively uneventful journey, follow the coastline.
Speak with Neloth. He will reveal that the Black Books were written by Hermaeus Mora, the Daedric prince of fate, knowledge and memory, and that he knows where to find an other.
Follow Neloth to Nchardak, a Dwemer ruin along the coastline. You will need to clear out the Reavers which have taken up residence on the outer parts of the ruins, as make way to a sealed door.
Neloth will open the sealed door, allowing you to enter the Nchardak Reading Room. Once inside you will see the Black Book sealed in some kind of protective mechanism, and Neloth will inform you that the steam supply must be restored to the Nchardak Reading Room in order to retrieve it.
Follow Neloth to the Nchardak Great Chamber, where he will explain that four control cubes are needed to restore the steam supply. Take the control cube he demonstrates with and follow him to the Nchardak Workshop to seek out three more.
The second cube easy, Neloth will lead you directly to it.
Leave one cube at the end of the bridge way, as Neloth says. Drop into the area below and place a cube in the pedestal on the lowest level – where the floor is still wet – to activate a staircase.
Proceed through the doorway the new staircase provides access to and turn left to locate a control cube. Take the cube, which will cause flooding in the bridged room.
Return to where you left the first control cube at the top of the bridge-way and take it in order to cause the room to flood.
Swim to the doorway across from the stairway you had previously activated -the flooding will allow you to swim through a corridor not otherwise accessible – and claim the fourth control cube. This will result in further flooding and the activation of a Dwarven Centurion Master & Dwarven Ballista Master.
Defeat the foes and head up the stairs where you will find a control switch. Place a control cube on the switch to reveal a bridge leading to the Nchardak Great Chamber door.
Inside the Nchardak Great Chamber, place two of your four control cubes on the pedestals where Neloth had demonstrated their use previously. Follow him as the water level drops and reveals a door. Activate the pedestal outside the door to unseal it and proceed through to the Nchardak Aqueduct.
To lower all three bridges in the Nchardak Aqueduct climb one of the ramps leading up to three pedestals above the entry. Place a control cube on the far right and then the far left.
Cross the bridges which will lead you up to a pedestal and activate it to lower the water level and reveal a sealed door at the bottom of the room.
Proceed to use a control cube to unseal the door and make way through a corridor, to a room with spinning blade floor traps. Pass through the trap and open the gate with a control cube to collect the final control cube. This will result in flooding.
Work your way back through to collect your control cube in the Nchardak Aqueduct room with bridges, causing more flooding.
You will need to swim to reach the door back to the Nchardak Great Chamber.
Once back in the Nchardak Great Chamber reclaim one of the control cubes you had left here and walk down the ramp to a circular area with four Dwemer columns and place a control cube at the base of each, restoring the steam supply to the Nchardak Reading Room.
A Dwarven Centurion Master will be release. Defeat it and grab loot from a chest behind it, including a Daedric Sword of Leeching.
Turn around and head back to the Nchardak Reading Room.
Activate the button in the Nchardak Reading Room to release the Black Book, complete the quest, and unlock the achievement.

The Gardener of Men
Read the Black Book found in the Nchardak Reading Room to be transported to Apocrypha.
Activate the Scrye – a strange and orange-glowing plant – ahead of you to lower a drawbridge. Walk to the end of the drawbridge and wait for the tunnel to meet it, then dash in. Do not fall into the greenish-black waters or you will be pulled out of Apocrypha and back into the Nchardak Reading Room.
Go to the end of the tunnel and wait for it to meet with another platform with a Scrye. Dash out and activate that Scrye, which will lower another drawbridge. Hop back in the tunnel, let it carry you to meet the newly lowered drawbridge, and dash out when they meet.
You will see a book, Chapter II, activate it to be transported to a tunnel of whirling book pages. Head to the end of the tunnel and activate the Scrye found there.
The tunnel will unfurl to create a room with Seekers and a Lurker. Defeat them, then activate the Scrye. This will open a gate leading to Chapter III.
Activating Chapter III will transport you to another section of the Apocrypha. For this chapter follow the natural flow do stairs, paths, and tunnels and be ready for numerous Seeker attacks. Keep following tunnels to their ends and they will lead you to Chapter IV.
Chapter IV takes you to a platform which only needs one Scrye activated to lead you directly to Black Book: Epistolary Acumen. Activate this Black Book and it will summon Hermaeus Mora. Speak with him and he will provide Mind, the second word in the Bend Will shout.
Go to Books in your Inventory and read Black Book: Epistolary Acumen to be returned to the Nchardak Reading Room.
Upon exiting the Nchardak Reading Room you will be attacked by a black dragon called Krosulah. This is a good opportunity to absorb a soul.
Fast travel back to the Skaal Village and speak with Storn Crag-Strider. He will require you to complete the Cleansing The Stones quest now if you haven’t done it already. Simply go to each of the sacred Stones marked on your map and use the Bend Will shout on them, defeat the spawned enemies which progress in difficulty, and return to Storn Crag-Strider.
Storn Crag-Strider will take the Black Book: Epistolary Acumen from you. Follow him and observe as he reads. Hermaeus-Mora will appear and give you Dragon, the third and final word of the Bend Will shout.
Take the Black Book: Epistolary Acumen from Storn Crag-Strider’s body to complete The Gardener of Men quest and start At The Summit of Apocrypha.

At The Summit of Apocrypha
Unlock the third and final word of the Bend Will shout.
Go to your inventory and read Black Book: Waking Dreams to be transported to Apocrypha, and proceed to activate the open book, labeled Chapter II, at the top of the stairs.
Be ready to deal with various Lurkers as you work your way up to a book titled Boneless Limbs. Taking it will cause a new stairway to appear and gate to open.
Head up the newly emerged staircase and through the opened gate to find Chapter III. Open it.
Go straight through the tunnel and work your way through the Lurkers. You will find a book titled Delving Pincers. Taking it will cause a gate at the beginning of the Chapter III tunnel to open so you may use the Scrye behind it to extend a new tunnel.
Go through the new tunnel, it will eventually lead you to a book titled Prying Orbs. Taking it will open a gate which will lead you to Chapter IV.
Proceed down the stairs and defeat the Lurkers. You will arrive at a tunnel opening. Follow the tunnel until you arrive at a fork with two tunnel path options and a black table with a Potion of Ultimate Healing.
Head down the tunnel directly across from the black table, once you reach its end it will shrink back to the black table. Then, take the other tunnel option, which will also recoil back to the black table and cause the original tunnel you took to alter.
Follow the newly formed tunnel to an open room. Defeat the Seeker and proceed up the staircase to find a book titled Gnashing Blades.
Taking the Gnashing Blades book will cause a new tunnel to form at the base of the stairs. Proceed through, reaching what appears to be a dead end with a tall Scrye-style flower directly ahead. Walking into this room will cause it to extend another tunnel.
Follow the new tunnel and defeat the Lurkers within, leading to an open room with another Lurker encounter. Work your way up the stairs and levels until you reach a Scrye.
Activating the Scrye will alter the tunnel you came to this open room from. Go back to the lowest level and into the tunnel, following it upwards until you reach a room with a glowing column of green light over a pool of greenish-black liquid.
A Lurker Vindicator will spawn in the liquid. Defeat him, then activate the Scrye found by the wall directly across from where you entered.
Activating the Scrye will open a passage at the other end of the room, along the same wall. Heading through will reveal a second Scrye to active, opening gates in the previous room.
Go through the opened gates, following the stairs up to find Chapter V and open it.
You will follow a tunnel to an open room with an impressive pillar in the middle. Work your way around the outer ring to clear the Lurkers, then return to the archway you entered from. Ahead of you will be a pedestal to place one of the books you have collect. Going clockwise, the order to place the books is:
Gnashing Blades (corresponds with image of toothed beast)
Prying Orbs (corresponds with image of an eye)
Boneless Limbs (corresponds with image of tentacles)
Delving Pincers (corresponds with image of insect pincers)
Placing the books on the correct pedestals will create a glow of light, then open Chapter VI at the base of the column in the middle of the room to be transported to the next section.
Head right to find a table with a book titled The Art of War Magic and read it to increase your Destruction magic skill.
Follow the tunnel which will lead you to a very large, open area. Here you will defeat two Seekers and find a wall with Armor, the second word of the Dragon Aspect shout.
Sahrotaar, a Serpentine Dragon, will attack. Use your Bend Will shout to tame him. Approach and climb onto him to initiate a short Dragon Riding tutorial.
Sahrotaar will fly to a small island of enemies to attack, all of which must be defeated to proceed.
Once the enemies are cleared Sahrotaar will fly towards your target, Miraak. Use [A] to tell Sahrotaar to land. Upon landing Miraak will speak to you and your final battle will begin.
Miraak uses Dragon Aspect and a variety of other shouts, including Become Ethereal and Whirlwind Sprint when his health becomes low. Using Whirlwind Sprint he will dash away from you and sink into the greenish-black liquid at the sides of this platform, then reemerge in Ethereal form in the center pool to summon a dragon and absorb its soul. This will happen three times and bring his health back up to 100% each time. The fourth time you whittle his health down and he emerges from the center pool Hermaeus-Mora will finish him off.
