Kerrigan returns in Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, and we’ll show you how to complete each of the new singleplayer campaign missions with honors. This expansion to Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty switches side, focusing more on the Zerg than the Terrans — Kerrigan is looking to exact revenge and gain total control over the Zerg armies, and we’ll provide strategies for accomplishing her goals.
Expect to see a wide range of new features that we’ll explain in detail.

Lab Rat
Order the drones in order to gather the resources together.
Use overlord to generate enough mineral supply for yourself to morph a unit.
Make your way through the doors and launch a full on frontal attack to take out the enemies and liberate the Zerglings. Man, you’re on a tear.
Once the turrets are destroyed, the next door is open.
The prologue pretty much plays itself out. Once the eradicator is destroyed, you will have completed the first mission.
Back in The Saddle
Fight your way a ross the lab station to reach the ship.
Head down and to the right until Sarah spots the hostiles. Time to do work!
Head up, to the right, and through the door until you reach the recovery terminal. You can use this to heal and restore some of your energy.
Cut through the sublevel by breaking down the door and taking out the wave of hostiles.
In the next area, go through the area on the right after taking out the enemies and continue on until you get the message that the enemy is about to seal the area.
Karrigan admits that she went overboard releasing these things. This doesn’t have anything to do with the walkthrough. I just thought I would point it out.
After the checkpoint, take out a huge wave of hostiles. After you lose an engine, keep fighting them until you reach the next checkpoint.
In the next area, proceed along the path to the upper left slowly and go to the end to reach another checkpoint and a cutscene. Looks like Sarah is separated!
Fight the first wave of enemies with Sarah only. This is an endurance test- keep good spacing between yourself and the multiples of attackers. Spread them out as much as you can to give yourself more room to operate and to single them out.
The mission ends after Jim runs into Nova.
Rendezvous
The main objective of this mission is simply to hold out until reinforcements arrive. This will take a total of 15 minutes.
In order to maintain your objective, quickly begin to build your base as soon as the ission begins. You will need 21 drones to be making optimum profit.
A few minutes into the level, you will be given the bonus objective of rescuing 3 trapped swarm queens.
Build a few queens and Zerglings to help protect your base until the timer runs out.
Once the timer does run out, you will have control of a huge army of Zerg. Just like every kid dreams, right? Anyway, lead them over to the Terran base and have them attack. There’s no way to lose this.. any sort of attack will do. Your Zerg army is so huge the Terrans wil have no chance.
Domination
The opening cutscene of this mission will give you some backstory on the objective: Collect 100 Zerg Eggs.
Begin by hatching Zerglings out of your Larva. If Kerrigan gets killed during this mission, she will respawn in one minute.
Head straight for Zagara and take her out. There are a large number of eggs you can collect around this area before she respawns.
Be sure to add the Banelings to your army when you pass their eggs. They will provide you with a big boost.
From the area with the Banelings, go left for another wave of Zergling hostiles to take out. Once you pass the Command Centers, destroy them. Throughout this objective, make sure to also take out Zagara each time she respwans.
Be sure to make good use of Kerrigan’s Psionic Blast attack whenever you run into a dense wave of enemies while collecting the eggs.
After the next cutscene and checkpoint, you will be able to command a bunch of Zereglings again. Lead them to Zagara’s base and have them destroy it, as well as the surrounding buildings. Once they’re all gone, you will have completed the mission!
Fire In The Sky
You will have to destroy a total of 7 Gorgon battlecruisers to complete this mission. There will be some minerals available right below your base to give your production a kickstart.
Head east and to the right to find the first Gorgon battlecruiser. Once you do this, build yourself a few queens before the second one launches.
Pick up the resources lying at the edge of the platform after destroying the third ship. You will need to build yourself a hatchery before engaging the fourth ship. If you head to the west, you will be able to find another grip of resources.
After taking out the fifth cruiser, head up at the fork and make sure to watch your unit production.
Go south to find the sixth Gorgon ship. The last one will be located to the east of that one. Bring your queens with you and clear the area and you will have finished off this mission in style.
Old Soldiers
In order to complete this mission, you will have to take out 20 enemy structures before the 1st Nuclear Strike. Start going to your right when the mission begins and you will find the first base.
Saturate your base and don’t pay too much attention to Warfield dropping nukes on your base. He doesn’t do it often enough to warrant adding static defense. They are trying to tempt you into doing it, but it will only waste your time and resources and make this mission harder to get through.
Quickly build a queen and begin to spread creep. You will be able to anticipate attacks much more effectively by doing this.
Head over to the Science Facility to the right of your current location. There will be a sizable number of hostiles here which will take a few waves of your units to clear.
The first attack will come at 8:30. Then, be prepared for a viking attack when the clock hits 11:20. Use metabolic boost with the raptor lings to enable quick building.
Make sure to add hydralisks and roaches on to your usual unit of Zerglings. Abberations will make your army much more effective in this mission as well. Continue to send waves of units and hammer away at the Terran scum and finish off the second objective of this mission.
Harvest of Screams
Objective 1 in this mission is to collect the Ursadon Matriarch Essence. This part is extremely straightforward since there is only one path you can take from the beginning of the level.
Once you reach the Matriarch, kill her to pick up the essence. She’s a pushover.
Continue up the linear path to find a frozen base. Cutscene time!
Once you have control again, you will need to destroy 3 psi-link spires. Build up a good supply of worker units and a sizable army of Zerglings. The first tower is located due north.
You will have a moment right after destroying the first spire to build your army up a bit more. You will need a minimum of 20, and a recommend number of 25-30 roaches.
When you get to the Colossus, use Kerrigan’s Kinetic Blast to destroy its shield. Your roaches will have a hard time with it otherwise. The two buildings are close to your current location and can be found via the map marker if you need direction. This is the end of Harvest of Screams.
Shoot The Messenger
The name of the game in this mission is to stop the Protoss shuttles from getting to the portals. There will be 9 waves of them. Bring Kerrigan over to the portal and use her Kinetic Blast to reduce the shields of the ships. Use Hydralisks and Spore Crawlers to finish it off.
In this level, you will want to amass an army that is largely composed of Hydralisks. The speed with which they shoot and the power they pack will make taking out these ships cake.
It is imperative that you get some upgrades from the Evolution Chamber. Once the Protoss starts sending a few ships your way at a time, use the army sections you have built up to intercept them. This is the most effective way to deal with these.
Enemy Within
The first part of this mission is straightforward. Follow Karrigan’s instructions until you enter the tunnel and become transformed into a queen.
After the next scene, you will have to kill a lot of Protoss. Spawn Zerglings liberally, and keep supplying them if they die.
Use your queen to attack the warp core until you transform once again. Keep your units near the queen for her regeneration buff.
After you transform for the third time into a Hydralisk, watch the scene. Once it is over, attack the bridge and take out the escape pods before they have a chance to launch. Once you meet your objective of destroying the Protoss units, the mission will be over.
Waking the Ancient
Start this one by making drones and getting a good economy going. When you’re done, kill the Quillgor, use a drone to harvest it, and walk it over to the Ancient One.
Make sure you only harvest one Qullgor at a time or Brakk will attack you.
If Brakk destroys 7 of the Qullgor, you will lose. The first is found on the west side of the map by the minerals.
Make sure to defend your Drones by assigning some of your units to them. Once you finish gathering the biomass, this mission will end.
The Crucible
Move straight ahead until you reach the base and Kerrigan is no longer under your control.
Once gameplay resumes, build up drones as quickly as you can for base defense.
Allocate some of your army to the area that is directly surrounding Kerrigan. The whole objective of this mission is to protect her.
In order to get through the waves of enemies, Hydralisks and the slightly more expensive Mutalisks will work wonders.
Take note of the two ramps that lead up to your base and make sure to place an assortment of crawlers by them in order to cut off enemy lines. This is a fairly easy mission and will be completed once the clock expires.
Supreme
Kerrigan hatches a plan to absorb essence from the Primal Zerg. Guess who gets to help her? Doesn’t Kerrigan always know how to have a good time?
The mission will begin with a quick tutorial of her new abilities. Take note of her heal.. it is powerful and will get you out of a lot of binds. Her offensive moves are pretty powerful and happen to recharge quickly.
Head straight up the linear path and have fun with Kerrigan’s new abilities. She’s seriously so powerful that it’s next to impossible to lose this level. You could honestly just let her go off and do nothing else and get through it if you really wanted to.
The scenery will transition into a jungle type of setting after you kill the second boss. Honestly, the first two are pushovers and don’t really require much strategy. Have fun going nuts with Kerrigan’s new abilities! The third boss, however, will summon Banelings that have to be dealt with. Dash works quite well. If you delegate Kerrigan to dealing with these enemies and have enough power in your other units to focus on wearing down the boss, you’ll get this kill rather quickly.
This mission will end in a fight against Zurvan. He is definitely tougher than the level’s previous bosses. There are a few tricks to him, however, that will make you have a much easier time. First of all, his attacks are completely telegraphed (watch for the bar in red). Second of all, you will have large numbers by this point. Concentrate them all into a full frontal assault while taking advantage of Kerrigan’s new healing ability and the mission’s yours!
Infested
Follow the instructions as you go through the tutorial on using Infestors. This first objective is pretty linear, as the game will do much of the progressing on its own.
When it comes time to build your army, I suggest using the typical hydralisk and roach cocktail. This will give you perfect versatility for this level. While your army is growing, have Kerrigan head up north and slowly start to chip away at enemy forces.
After you infest the Terran, make sure to spread as much creep as you can to give them a nice boost.
When there is no gas, you can continue to infest the garrisons like you did in the previous objective. This will add to your number of infested Terran.
For the final push, delegate your strongest attacks (Kerrigan) to the toughest land and air units, the tanks and battlecruisers. Your units can hold off all the smaller hostiles.
Hand of Darkness
This is another in a line of fairly linear missions. As usual, you will want to start this one off by building up drones to toughen your base up.
The roach/hydralisk cocktail will serve you well in this seek and destroy mission once again. Once you are able to make tanks, use Kerrigan’s healing ability to keep them in good shape.
Don’t waste your time with Zerglings in this map. They will be eliminated quickly and will prove to be a waste of your resources.
Conviction
The objective of this mission is to reach the bridge with Kerrigan in under 8 minutes. The Malignant Creep ability will be very effective in this mission.
Once the second round of reinforcements and the queen show up, backtrack towards where you began the level to collect more creep.
The key to this fairly straightforward mission is to get yourself at least 3 creep tumors. Otherwise, just keep hammering away.
Planetfall
Start this mission like usual- by getting yourself a good amount of drones and spreading some creep around.
Once the first Bile Launcher appears, use a combination of Kerrigan and your units. Your units should mainly be comprised of Hydralisks, roaches, and banelings for close combat.
Use your queens to lay down tumors in order to make creep expansion more efficient.
The spreading of creep is key in this map for the simple reason that you will be forced to cover a lot of areas at once. This will not always be possible, even if you play your cards well. Be sure you are within distance and can get back to a launcher quickly if it is in trouble.
If you choose to go after the bonus objective and want to destroy the gates, be sure to only take half your army and leave the other half to defend the launchers.
The Reckoning
Begin the final mission by building a bunch of drones. Use Kerrigan to take out the small force that is attacking your base.
Station units to the right of where you began the mission. Use Hydralisks to combat the banshees in the initial wave of enemies.
Once the Hyperion appears, you will need to help Jim’s forces. Hydralisks and Mutalisks will do just fine. <.li>
Once you have 200/200 population, head over to Mengsk’s base. Use Infestors to make your way through. Taking out this final area will give you completion of this mission and Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm.
