Every Assassin’s Creed title has its share of easter eggs, and Assassin’s Creed 3 is no exception to the rule. Aside from offering a wealth of secrets to uncover, the game hides numerous easter eggs—only a few of which have been discovered so far.
We’ll begin with the Sasquatch. Better known as the Bigfoot in North American folklore, the Sasquatch has existed as a thing of myth—a creature that stands upright, like a man, but is clad in fur, like a bear. It’s gait is slow and lurching, and few have seen it. Clever, always at a distance, the Sasquatch has managed to elude man and become the focus of many a home video in the mid to late 20th century.
Connor, upon hearing this story, is immediately piqued by the possibility that he too may encounter this fabled creature. Needless to say, he’s set it upon himself to go out and kill the mythical beast to bring back its head for the whole world (at least the whole small, isolated world of the late 18th century) to see. The video below should show you how to find him, as describing it would take far too many words.
This video, like many of the others, have been supplied via StuckAtSpawn’s very excellent channel on YouTube.
The Sasquatch isn’t the only myth to make its way into Assassin’s Creed 3 as an easter egg. The story from Aesop’s fables about the boy who cried wolf can also be found in the game a distance north of New York in a secluded camp.
Finding his wolf-eaten corpse (he did cry wolf, after all) will cause an errant wolf to spawn near your location, who will immediately attempt to end your life. A video by youtuber Stuckatspawn shows where he is:
The Elk Bachelor is not quite a reference to anything, but it’s an amusing quest nonetheless. The story of the Elk Bachelor refers to King Edward the elk, an elk who’s unable to get laid, as it were. “He’s never found a mate onnaconna his aggression,” says a townsperson in thick Bostonian accent.
So what does Connor do? He goes and kills the elk. Ace Ventura would never approve.
Ever willing to kill animals for the sake of killing them, Connor is given a mission to kill an acute cat. Not a cute cat, but an acute one. Specifically, it’s a cougar, and not the kind that dresses in leopard print and hits on you drunkenly at a business party.
Wolves ain’t nothing to mess with, unless you’re Connor Kenway, that is. There’s a big bad wolf in the woods of the Frontier and it’s the kind that eats young ladies in red hoods and not the kind who tries lame pick-up lines on you in a dive bar. Needless to say, it needs to die, and Connor’s the man to kill it.
Not to be confused with men who try to ‘mansplain’ everything they know about feminism to women who know better, the Patriarch is a 15-point buck that’s said to be impervious to buckshot—and he is.
Bearing the fact that it has thick skin, you’re going to have to sneak to get up close and personal to slay the wretched beast. If you hashtag your achievement with #NODADS, you’ll get extra credit for doing so (but only from us, and not from the game).
For a change, Connor’ll be hunting a man. Specifically, a Hessian known as the Headless Horseman. He’s a man who lost his entire company in battle. He lost his head, but he never died—and now he wanders around the Frontier with a pumpkin for a head, decapitating unwary victims all along the road. It’s up to you to end his suffering, and stop him from killing anyone else.
There’s nothing worse than being caught out in the storm, only to hear a wailing in the wind coming from a desolated lighthouse long abandoned. Ludicrous as the story may sound—it’s real, like every other rumor you hear in the Frontier. Here’s how you find it.
It’s one of the few easter eggs that doesn’t come from the suggestions of a storyteller, and one you’ll have to go searching for by yourself—with the help of the following video, of course. It’ll lead you to a particularly nasty bobcat.
Extra long, and a bit harder to deal with than the rest, the man eater is a big black bear with a taste for human blood. You’ll have to follow its tracks and kill it before it kills anyone else—and net yourself a nice little reward for doing so.
Arr, me hearties! The land isn’t the only place you’ll find monsters to hunt. The fabled Kraken can be found—and yes, killed, for the first time ever—in Assassin’s Creed 3.
Redcoats aren’t the only thing you’ll have to worry about, as strange things are afoot in America. You’ll have to jump through a bunch of trees to discover what appears to be an unidentified flying object. Here’s how you find it.
