Dead Rising 3 is a brand new, and highly anticipated next generation Zombie Survival Action Horror game. The game is the next official entry into the Dead Rising series and is currently being developed by Capcom Vancouver (the developers of Dead Rising 2).
The game will be published by Microsoft Studios. Dead Rising 3 is currently slated for a release on November 22nd 2013 and it is set to be an Xbox One exclusive title, this was announced at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) of 2013 on June 10th.
When Dead Rising 2 started being hailed as a commercial success, there was instant speculation amongst the fans of the series, and industry journalists about the existence of Dead Rising 3. This was all due to the series Producer, Keiji Inafune (Mega Man franchise & Resident Evil series) having said in 2010, “we’re not going to start even speaking about DR3 until we see the sales of DR2—unfortunately that’s the nature of the game! However, the experience with Blue Castle was very positive, and if we have the opportunity I would like to work with them again.”
With Dead Rising 2 having sold 2.2 million copies worldwide, the development of Dead Rising 3 was all but assured. The game was officially announced and shown at E3 of 2013, the demo build that was shown was running on high end gaming PC rather than the Xbox One, but not long after this Microsoft offered Capcom a partnership to make Dead Rising 3 an Xbox One Launch Exclusive.
As of yet there have been no details regarding the game coming to the PC. Capcom’s Chief Operating Officer, David Reese, has also commented on the game, saying that it will likely continue the narrative of the previous entries in the series. He then went on to mention that DLC that would bridge the gap between the two games was entirely possible, though not guaranteed. The games soundtrack is composed by Klayton, bringing fans to expect a metal/electronic themed soundtrack.
Dead Rising 3 will most likely closely resemble the style of play found in previous series instalments. The player will take control of the character, Nick Ramos in a third person survival sand box world as he searches for supplies and weapons in order to complete missions. As with most next generation games that take place in a sandbox environment, this one is set to be markedly more large than the areas available to players in the previous games. The sandbox in Dead Rising 3 is currently said to be bigger than the world of Dead Rising 1 and 2 combined.
Thanks to the advanced capabilities of the Xbox One the developers are able to fill the larger sandbox much more efficiently; they can render and animate three times as many zombies on the screen at any one given time. A feature that is to be included, that hasn’t been spoken about much by the developers, is that the game will not feature load times, meaning seamless transitions from area to area and outdoors to indoors. Unlike Dead Rising 1 and 2, this title will not feature any type of time limit, giving the player much more freedom and opportunities to explore the sandbox. There will however be an optional “Nightmare Mode” that will introduce a time limit and limited save options for a much more challenging experience.
As part of Microsoft’s second screen initiative and their want of Kinect implementation, the game can make use of the features offered by accessories, they are entirely optional though, making neither essential to the game. Players that are using the Kinect sensor can use the add-on to shout at zombies, thus distracting them and drawing their attention. Any loud noises in the players’ immediate area may also draw the attention of the zombies accidentally, the developers however have said that the audio levels will be tuned to make sure that when you make a small noise in your gaming area, it will not affect the game.
Players can also use the SmartGlass app to locate and find specific locations as well as to set mission objective way-points, it also allows players to call in air strikes and the support of drones. This feature has left some fans confused and curious over how the character has access to military assets despite being an everyday mechanic.
Set approximately 10 years after the events of Dead Rising 2, the player must take control of the new protagonist Nick Ramos, a young mechanic that must use his various skills and talents as a man that works with machinery to aid in his escape from a mass zombie outbreak in his home city of Los Perdidos.
He must improvise weaponry and vehicles in order to survive his ordeal. Los Perdidos is a fictional city located in the state of California. He must escape the city before an ordered and inbound military strikes destroys the city, killing any inhabitants left behind, be they zombie or human beings.
In keeping with the tradition of the Dead Rising series and building on the mechanics introduced in Dead Rising 2, the player can use all manner of everyday items as a means of combating the zombie hordes. The player can combine various everyday items together in order to increase their lethality in strange and often hilarious ways, chainsaws on sticks etc. However in Dead Rising 3, this can be done on the go, instead of requiring a workbench.
A new feature however, is thanks to Nicks talents as a mechanic. The player can now combine certain vehicles together to create “combo vehicles”, the example shown recently was the RollerHawg a mixture of motorcycle and steam roller [as seen above in the image]. The player can also find various Blueprints scattered across the sandbox that will allow them to make certain special weapons and pieces of equipment. With driving now being a key means of exploration in the huge sandbox, the developers have made all combo vehicles to have seats to further implement cooperative play.
Nick Ramos is the main character as well as the playable one in Dead Rising 3. Nick is a young man and a orphan who is making a living by working as a mechanic for the firm “Wrench ‘o’ Rama. In the wake of a Zombie out break, the government has ordered Los Perdidos to be cleared by military strike. Nick plans to escape from the explosion by plane and to do so he is going to use all his skills as a mechanic to engineer weapons and equipment to help him achieve this goal. Additional weapons include sledgehammer, handgun, machine gun, sledge saw, circular saw, hammer, tactical gun and RPG.
