Trans-Galactic Tournament is an upcoming MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game that is currently being developed by Kiz Studios.
Previously, Kiz Studios have developed the popular mobile game Critter Escape as well as Might and Mayhem. Assisting in the games development is Hibernum Creations the social network game company who developed Fruit Ninja 2 for Xbox One. At this time, the publisher is thought to be Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
Thus far, the game has only been confirmed for PlayStation 4 and is expected to ship some time in 2015.
In keeping with the rising trend of MOBA games coming to home consoles, Trans-Galactic Tournament is being developed exclusively with the intentions of being a console game. To that end, Kiz Studios are working alongside Hibernum Creations to create a 4 VS 4 MOBA optimized for the PlayStation 4.
Speaking about the initial design document that inspired the game, Kiz Studios writer and developer David Bednar has said, “’What if the Star Wars cantina starred in an 80’s cartoon, which suddenly broke out into a football match, which suddenly broke out into Wrestlemania?’ It’s a weird start to a design document, but the Tournament’s universe is everything we love: monsters, space and sports, clenched together in a fist and ready to punch the lights out of the world of online multiplayer games.”
Bednar goes on to talk about how the game is much faster than any of the other MOBA that you’re likely to have played and something of a “love-letter” to the golden era of fast paced, arena first person shooters.
David continues to talk about what makes “TGT” stand out from the dozens of other MOBAs that are currently available to players. He says that the game isn’t a “stand-and-click mathfest”, rather that it centers around well timed blasts and attacks over ravines, shortcuts and platforms to engage in one hit kill attacks whilst hunting down fleeing foes.
When a forum user pleaded to not make the game a pay to win title, Mr Bednar replied, “I can assure you, Trans-Galactic Tournament won’t be Pay-To-Win. We know how much serious players dislike it– and honestly, we don’t like it either– so from the start of development, we’ve designed TGT to favor players over payers.”
Elaborating on the matter, he said, “First and foremost, no element of the game that affects character stats is solely purchasable through real-world currency. Every single Champion, Weapon and upgrade can be earned solely through play.”
“Secondly, we’ve balanced the game so that when you upgrade your characters, you aren’t simply making them ‘better’; you’re customizing them to your own play style. That seems like a subtle difference, but in TGT, your champions don’t get better just because you pump up their stats. Instead, you change them to fit the way you play, so you can use your own skills more efficiently in battle.”
At this time, it’s not yet known if the game carries any manner of narrative outside of tournament competition.
While Trans-Galactic Tournament maintains many of the norms that have been established in the MOBA genre, it does have a few notable exceptions to the rule.
For example, playable champions don’t level up in the middle of a match by way of item acquisition and enemy kills (commonly called in-match levelling). Rather, each and every champion begins and ends the game with one flat and established stat sheet. This brings an inherent balance to the game.
The differences between characters are further augmented by way of Champion customisation. This allows players to create a custom loadout that suits each player’s tastes, be it a focus on defence, speed, offence etc. The game will also feature environmental hazards and a number of traps in its maps to keep players off-balance.
When the game launches, it will do so with a lot of content, David Bednar has commented on this, saying “We’re launching with a ton of content: 3 multiplayer modes, 6 arenas, and 10 launch Champions. A free weekly Champ rotation lets everybody test drive new fighters, and every Champion and stat-altering item can be unlocked through play- it’s how our devs do it, anyway.”
The developers plan on supporting the game post-launch with a number of free updates that will include new champions, arenas and game modes, but these updates are only available to PlayStation Plus members.
Currently, there’s no information on Trans-Galactic Tournament’s roster of characters.
Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.
