Fire Emblem: Awakening Starter Classes Guide: Lord, Cavalier

With the possibility to truly switch classes for the first time ever in the series, Fire Emblem: Awakening has a lot of starter classes to choose from, allowing players to have a lot of freedom in customizing their army to their liking. While it’s true that characters won’t be able to switch to all starter classes, the choice is so broad that you will soon be forgetting about the limitations of the system. At the end of day, it will be up to you to create a really effective team with the right combination of classes and skills and we’re here to help you making these choices but going over all the starter and advanced classes of the game, with some general features and skills coming as default for the class.

  • Lord

The Lords can only equip swords as weapons but also have access to some unique weapons which can’t be used by other classes. This class is pretty unique because it is story related and you won’t be able to change it in any way: Chrom and Lucina are the only characters coming with this class and for a good reason. In the beginning this class won’t be too useful: they’re kinda weak with decent attack power but mediocre defense. Add to this that most of times they cannot die during story mission and you’ll realize how it’s best to keep them out of the fighting and just use them to finish off weakened ebemies, at least in the first parts of the game. Once they level up, they become a lot better and with the exclusive weapons they get, they will become one of the best damage dealers of the game. The Lord class comes with the Dual Strike and Charm skills, learmed at level 1 and level 10 repsectively. Lords promote to Great Lords.

  • Cavalier

The Cavaliers are really nice fighters, dealing quite a bit of damage, defending nicely and possessing a good speed. The best feature of the Cavaliers is their range: they can easily cover a lot of ground thanks to the fact that their mounted. Use Cavaliers well and you’ll have some great units on your hands. Cavaliers can equip Sowrds and Lances and promote to Great Knight or Paladin, depending on your choices.
