Destiny: The Taken King Guide - What is Armsday

The release of Destiny: The Taken King sees the addition of many new features and alternations to the game’s core mechanics. Among these new additions is the introduction of a new weekly event called Armsday.

Armsday takes place every Wednesday, and gives you access to a new set of guns for you to field test. Each of these special weapons can be acquired from Banshee-44, the Gunsmith located in the Tower.

The basics of Armsday

On every Armsday, Banshee-44 releases a new set of five weapons for you to test. Each weapon requires you to kill a set number of enemies in a specific way. For example, one weapon might require you to score precision kills. Another weapon might require you to kill Hive enemies. Objectives are listed in the weapon description.

Field-testing weapons is basically a new form of bounty offering rewards unique to the Gunsmith.

Undertaking these special missions doesn’t take up space in your bounty list, so you’re free to take all five weapons—provided you have the inventory space for them.

When you complete an objective, you will receive Gunsmith reputation. You can safely dismantle the weapon as soon as you complete the objective.

It isn’t possible to have all three characters on your account perform the same field tests repeatedly. Once you complete them on one character, they will be unavailable to all other characters in your account. Furthermore, field test weapons can’t be stored in the vault.

What is Gunsmith Reputation?

Like the Cryptarch in Destiny, players can earn reputation with the Gunsmith. This reputation is earned by field-testing the weapons he provides each week. You can earn ranks with his reputation, which rewards you with a package.

These packages can contain legendary weapons as well as quests. At rank 2, you’ll receive a quest called “Back in the Saddle” that requires you to perform a Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, or Fusion Rifle kill while telemetry is active. Telemetries are temporary buffs you can buy from Banshee-44 that increase the experience gain of weapons.

At rank 3, you’ll get a quest for an Exotic weapon.

You can also earn Gunsmith reputation by turning in “relic weapons”, a new type of drop in The Taken King that you’ll find while out on patrol and killing monsters.

What are Foundry Orders?

As the term suggests, Foundry Orders are just orders for Legendary guns. You’ll get them the week after you place the order. The Gunsmith is like amazon.com but for futuristic guns.
