Dark Souls 2 Magic Guide - Pyromancies

This magic is specialised in short to mid range fire spells and requires a Pyromancy in order for them to be cast. Pyromancy does not require faith or intelligence, and to strengthen the spells you must upgrade the Pyromancy flame itself, which you are able to upgrade a total of 10 times in order to increase the maximum damage dealt. You can also acquire a Dark Pyromancy Flame which increase in power with the more hollowed that you become.

Due to the fact that most of these spells are fire based, you may want to bare in mind that using these against enemies with high fire resistance will be very ineffective. Unfortunately the Dark Souls 2 Pyromancy spells tend to be limited to a fairly short range and a longer casting time. However, they inflict a considerable amount of damage, can be wielded by anybody and often leave behind a pool of lava which damages other enemies who step into it.

Where to find the Pyromancy Flame in Dark Souls 2?
After you have successfully defeated the boss, Flexile Sentry, on the ship in No-Man’s Wharf, climb the ladder and avoid the enticing device straight in front of you which will fast forward you into a cut-scene and you’ll find yourself placed in Bastille with no path back to this location. You’ll discover the pyromancy flame in the chest behind you towards the top if a ladder. Inside this chest you’ll also find the spell, Fireball.
