Valve officially unveiled the Steam Machines from their licensed partners, with prices going from the $460 range up to the $5000 tier. Yeah, this takes enthusiast gaming to the next level. If you need to see how the specs compare to the prices of home consoles or you need a gauge on the hardware to see how it ranks, you’ve come to the right place.
Over on the Steam Universe page there’s a dedicated section to all the Steam Machines that they plan to have go on sale in November, 2015. For your viewing pleasure I’ve compiled all 15 of the Steam Machines into a single list, showing their starting and ending price range, along with all of the available specs for each unit.
The system at $460 is about par the course for the Xbox One, and somewhat lower-spec than the PS4 if you compare the benchmarks of the GPU to the one approximated to be in the PS4. The same applies for the $480 build when compared to the PS4. It does well measured against the Xbox One but still leaves a bit to be desired on the GPU front. By the time you get to the $500 range it starts to become comparable to Sony’s fourth outing. Nevertheless, you’ll be able to play a lot of the newer and older games alike on the lowest tier Steam Machine, save at the lower graphics settings. Also, don’t expect to boot up massive titles like GTA V and Star Citizen hoping to run them with the graphics maxed out if you plan on getting a lower tier Steam Machine.
Some of you might be wondering what a Steam Machine is good for if you already have a gaming PC. Well, it’s good for nothing. Steam Machines are for people who don’t have gaming PCs but are interested yet afraid of building their own. It’s an entry-level machine priced to give you performance and power without any of the hardware setup or the bulky appearance of a tower case usually associated with hardcore PC gaming. In addition to this, the small form factor of the Steam Machines are designed to make them appealing in a living room entertainment setting.
Each of the listed Steam Machines from the licensed vendors will be due for release this upcoming November during the holiday season. You can check them out below with accompanying images.
