Getting Piper Wright as a companion in Fallout 4 is quite simple, and can happen once you visit Diamond City for the first time. Unlike other companions that require players to venture far and battle through hordes of enemies, wastelanders will be able to find the journalist sidekick in no time.
Almost as easy as getting Dogmeat, and much easier than getting Preston Garvey, Piper can be the Sole Survivor’s follower or companion through just a few conversations in Diamond City. For those that just started off and want to know the location for Diamond City, you will have to go south-east of Vault 111, which is displayed on the map after the first quest with the Minute Men.
After traveling to the city, you will make it to the front gate right near the baseball statue, this is where you will meet Piper for the first time. After she is done having a conversation with the gatekeeper, the player will be involved into the conversation which will lead you into the entrance of Diamond City.
From here, you can either listen to the conversation she has with the mayor or proceed onward. If you choose to chime into the conversation, you can get a little back story from both the mayor and Piper, and even tell that you are looking for your kid Shaun.
After the conversation, she will tell you to stop by her office, which is Publick Occurrences. After you are inside, she will promise to help you out and write a story about you and your child if you choose to do an interview with her. After the short interview, you will have Piper as a companion. You can watch UnitedGamer101 guide on how to get Piper, as seen below.
Something worth noting, if you already have Nick Valentine before entering Diamond City, the gate will already be open. From here you will see Piper and the mayor talking. And for those that didn’t do the interview with her, if you exit the city and re-enter you will find Piper in the Mayor’s office. lastly, if you reach maximum approval with Piper, you will be awarded the Gift of Gab perk. This perk will allow you to get double the XP from persuasions being successful, and finding new locations.
