How To Get Preston Garvey As A Companion In Fallout 4

Preston Garvey is a companion in Fallout 4 and can be helpful if you get him after the First Step quest. In this walkthrough companion guide, wastelansders will learn how to progress through the quests When Freedom Calls and the First step to get Garvey as a companion.

Players will first meet Preston Garvey near the beginning of the game, which is during the quest When Freedom Calls. By now, many should know that you don’t have to get the laser musket, but you can get it if you want to help Garvey and the Minute Men in the Museum of Freedom.

After clearing out all of the raiders in the building and defeating the Death Claw, you will need to talk to Preston again, but this time in Sanctuary Hills. After completing the quest When Freedom Calls, you will be able to do the quests Sanctuary and the First Step.

Looking over to the Sanctuary quest, players will need to build the designated materials and gather the requested items that Sturges need for the Sanctuary settlement. And then there is the quest the First Step, this will have players go to Tenpines Bluff just west of Vault 111. After talking to the people settled there, you will be tasked to wipe out all the raiders in Corvega Assembly Plant, which is south-east of Vault 111. After completing this quest, you will have Preston Garvey as a companion.

Something worth noting: during the quest Garvey might send you to Walden Pond, south of Vault 111 to clear out some raiders, but besides that there shouldn’t be any changes during the quest the First Step to get him. After maximizing your friendship with Garvey, he will grant players the perk United We Stand. This perk increases damage dealt by 20%, as well as increasing damage resistance by 20 points when battling three or more enemies at once.
