Ruzzle is a word-based puzzle game where players can challenge other players in the ultimate battle of wits and quick thinking. Find words like a boss and rise above the rest in this very stimulating and addictive online game.
Gameplay
In Ruzzle, players are required to face other players in a three round face-off. Players must find as many words as they can in a four by four grid with the purpose of getting a higher score than their opponent after the timer ends. The one with the higher score at the end of the three rounds wins the battle.
Players can form words out of the grid by clicking on the sequence of letters. This will translate to scores for the player if the word is valid, and if all the letters are touching each other in sequence either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
Challenges
Unfortunately, there is no single player mode in the free version of Ruzzle, although a practice mode is available in the premium edition. This, however, will require players to purchase the game.
Alternately, players can challenge other people from different sources. They can find players via Facebook and Twitter, as well as challenge friends who are already playing the game. In addition, they can also challenge random players who can accept to do battle with you as long as they are online.
Scoring System
Each letter in the grid has a corresponding point, which is more or less proportional to how often they are used in the English vocabulary. Thus, the letter G holds a higher score than A, and Z or Q has a much higher score than R or S, and so on. Once a word has been cleared, the sum of all letters used will be added to your score.
Depending on the round being currently played, special blocks can appear that can help you get a better score. Double and triple letter blocks as well as double and triple word blocks may appear, and these blocks work as they do in scrabble, where multipliers are used depending on the block that was used. This provides a great opportunity for players to either increase their lead or catch up with an opponent on points.
Music
Players have the option of either playing with or without music. If players choose to play with music, the sounds will change once the timer is about to run out, which will provide you with a cue that you have just a few seconds left before your score would be finalized. Some people find that music increases the pressure, which is why they would rather have music off when they play.
Tips and Tricks
Finding success in Ruzzle can be done in one of two ways – either you start small or start big. Players can look for shorter words and find variations of them before expanding. They can focus first on a small area of the grid and work outwards, focusing on one small group at a time.
Conversely, they can look at the entire grid at one time and try to find the longest word possible. They could them break it down into smaller words that more or less use the same patterns. Of course, having a good grasp of the English vocabulary as well as spelling will help to.
Some other things that players should definitely take advantage of are the letters with high scores as well as the double and triple letter or word blocks. Being able to use combinations of these can swiftly turn the tide of battle in your favor, so make sure to look at these first if you have the luxury of time.
Also, don’t forget to look at prefixes and suffixes, as these provide some good scores especially if you can combine words with a healthy dose of –er’s, re-‘s, -ed’s, or –in’s. Even finding plural forms of words can be handsomely rewarded
Lastly, if the sounds bother you especially when the timer is running out, then turn it off. It would be much better to not expect when the round has ended rather than having you panicking during the final few seconds as the music tries to rush you and makes more harm than good.
