Star Trek Rivals Walkthrough [Guide]

Go boldly where no man has gone before with Star Trek Rivals, the new collectible card game from Elephant Mouse. Based on the recent Star Trek movie and its upcoming sequel, Star Trek Rivals features characters, ships, and other items from the franchise, and it is certainly a must have for Trekkies everywhere. There are a lot of challenges that awaits players of this game, and collecting all available cards is a necessity for every completist out there.

Gameplay
Star Trek Rivals is a card collection game where players must do battle with each other in a three by three grid. Players can place cards one at a time on the grid, and players can convert red cards, which are owned by the opponent, into blue cards by having the number on the side of the card that you are placing be higher than the number of the red card beside you. Once all nine spaces have been filled up, victory will be determined if you there are more blue cards than red cards, with the one remaining card in either player’s hand taken into consideration.

Chain Effects
Players can also use chain effects in order to gain an advantage over players with superior cards. Chain effects can be triggered if you are successfully able to convert a red card into a blue card. Any red cards whose sides are lower than the number on the adjacent sides of your recently turned card will also be converted, and this will chain all throughout other cards as well. Theoretically, one card can convert all other cards presently in the grid. Of course, opponents will be able to do this as well if you are not careful.

Currency
Credits and gold pressed latinum are the currencies within the game. Credits are considered as premium currency while latinum is the premium currency. Both can be used to purchase booster packs, but the quality of your purchase would depend on what type of currency as well as the amount that you would like to spend.

In addition, latinum also has the added purpose of being able to re-choose the hand that you have been dealt during matches, as well as the ability to see what cards your opponent has brought into play. while this has its advantages, the price of latinum can be quite high, as only a few is rewarded each time players level up, and most of the time you would have to make in-app purchases in order to acquire an adequate amount of this resource.

Coins can be earned by playing matches, with rewards differing depending on whether a battle ends in a win, loss, or draw. Thus, playing many battles is essential in earning enough credits, as well as leveling up, in order to further improve your deck.

Cards
Cards feature different characters, ships, weapons, and other elements from the Star Trek movies. Each card has a number on each side of the card, and knowing how to use these to their advantage is instrumental in a player’s success in the game. Both standard and elite cards are available for play, and additional booster packs as well as individual cards can be purchased using either credits or latinum.

In addition, cards can be evolved if they have multiple copies of a card, and they would also be required to spend some credits in order to complete the process. Evolved cards will have stronger stats, which mean that they would be much more important when brought into play.

Players would be able to see their collection in the Cards section of the game. The game also allows cards to be sold in exchange for credits.

Battles
Players can battle either friends or strangers, and they can also play multiple games at once, as these are conducted asynchronously. However, one quirk about this game is that your collection of cards is shared throughout all battles, which means that certain cards will not be available if they are being used in an ongoing battle. This can serve as a problem especially if random selection results in having your higher ranked cards at play with an opponent that takes a long time to make their moves.

With this, current updates allow players to automatically get a win against opponents who do not make a move after thirty-six hours. In addition, players may also nudge opponents and push notifications, if it is turned on, will inform players that they have pending moves.

Social Function
Star Trek Rivals also has a social function where those who refer their friends to play the game will be provided with rewards in the form of currency as well as rare and powerful cards. Players are provided with codes that they can share with friends, and gamers who are playing the game for the first time can enter this code. This will get both players rewards as well as the ability to compete with each other in battle.

Tips and Tricks
Those who are not going towards completing their collection would be better off selling weaker cards, or those cards that they do not want to use. This way, they would have a higher chance of getting more powerful cards in a single hand. However, this will also mean that you will have less cards to play with, and you cannot conduct many battles at the same time.

Evolve cards whenever the requirements can already be met. Evolving means getting more powerful cards, and although the increase may seem insignificant, this is a great way for regular cards to become more formidable. Don’t waste your time and money on weak cards with three sides having one or two on them, however, as it would be better to just sell them off and put the credits that you’ll be receiving to better use.

Being able to use your cards properly is also essential. It is important to protect your weak sides and expose your stronger sides, especially when you are on the defensive. This will ensure that these cards cannot be converted by the enemy. That is why using corners and sides are extremely essential, as these can be used to cover up weaker sides.

On the other hand, you can also use this other tactic to set traps against enemies. By exposing two weak sides, you can coax the player into converting your card, and you can use the other open weak side to convert back your card and try to get chain effects to trigger, hopefully allowing you to turn multiple cards at once.

Also, during battle, it is not recommended to use latinum to either reselect your cards or take a peek at your opponent’s cards. Usually, the cost far outweighs the benefits, even if you win the battle. Players should rather focus their hard earned currencies in purchasing booster packs and individual cards for evolving.

With regards to purchasing booster packs, take note that the more you spend, the higher the chance of you getting more powerful cards. Thus, don’t spend your credits and latinum on the lowest priced item. Save this up for higher ranked packs and cards as one elite card will far outweigh the value of even five standard cards.
