Plants vs. Zombies 2 Walkthrough [Guide]

Crazy Dave is back, along with some familiar faces of the plant and zombie variety. Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time features both old and new allies and enemies, and the tag line of the title may be because of the fact that fans of the game have waited for years for the release of this much anticipated sequel…Or maybe because Dave and the gang have been displaced in time, and it’s up to them to defeat zombies from different eras in the hopes for finding their way back home and, eventually, Crazy Dave’s Taco.

Gameplay
Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time is a tower defense game pretty much like its predecessor. However, some changes have been made by introducing new plants and zombies as well as several other items and powerups. Also, players will now have the option to navigate through the worlds on their own rather than following a set path. This will allow the players to earn stars as well as new plants to add to their zombie crushing army.

Currency
Plants vs. Zombies 2 has coins as the main currency. Coins are acquired through drops by zombies, as well as rewards for not losing any lawnmowers. Coins are used to purchase plant food as well as powerups. Coins can also be acquired via in-app purchases.

Plants
Plants are your main allies in the battle against the attacking zombies. Plants, in most cases, will require sun in order to be planted, and each plant will have differing uses. Zombies are the player’s main antagonists. Most usually, zombies beeline towards the player’s base in a straight line, although some special zombies would deviate from this pattern. Zombies also have varying strengths, endurance, and special abilities, so knowing which plant would be able to best deal with them is very much recommended.

Plant Food
Plant food is an addition not present in the original Plants vs. Zombies game. Plant food will either permanently or temporarily buff up a plant’s abilities, and these are acquired from killing glowing zombies. Sometimes, plant food can also be collected randomly. However, the most common way of acquiring plant food is by purchasing them. players can only carry a finite number of plant food, and this cannot be carried over to the next rounds.

Powerups
Powerups are another addition to Plants vs. Zombies 2, and when used properly, it can definitely turn the tide in your favor. Three different powerups exist, allowing players to pinch zombies, flick them away, or electrocute them. Powerups would have to be purchased using coins and can only be used for a limited amount of time.

Keys
Keys are collected from various stages, and these are integral to the game as some paths will require a certain number of keys in order to unlock some gates. These gates often contain new plants as well as mini-games where players can earn stars.

Stars
Stars can be earned by completing mini-games. These Stars are important as these are used to unlock the next world. Mini games include the conveyor belt mini game from the original Plants vs. Zombies, as well as other games specific to a certain world.

Tips and Tricks
Players are advised to plant as many sun generating plants such as sunflowers at the very beginning of each level. Most of the time, only a single zombie would come out at the start, so players can easily dispatch this with a Potato Mine while they continue stocking up on sun.

Plant food is a very valuable resource, and use them only when necessary. If you, however, have your inventory of plant food maxed out and another one appears, use your excess plant food on sunflowers rather than on other plants especially if you are not in any danger.

Return to paths that you have not gone through, especially if you have a shortage of keys or stars. This will allow you to open gates and be able to move forward in the game.

As much as possible, do not use powerups unless in the gravest of situations. These cost a lot of coins, and you are advised to spend on powerups only when you are in danger of being overwhelmed. Also, make sure to swipe and pinch as fast as you can while these powers are activated, as they are only available for a very limited amount of time.

Most perks are only available via in-app purchases, so don’t expect to be able to acquire all plants and get a lot of slots for plants and food unless you are willing to spend real money on them.

Lastly, make it a point to get rid of gravestones and other similar objects. These block your shots from hitting the approaching zombies, so it would be wise to use special plants to get rid of these from the get go in order to get a clear line of attack.
