The year is 2084, and the world is up for the taking for anyone who would want it. Players are now tasked with claiming territories with the goal of uniting the galaxy – and possibly the universe – under one banner. With this, you must have the most elite of troops and weaponry, and your tactics must be top notch. These are essential to victory in Hothead Games’ Rivals At War: 2084.
Gameplay
Rivals At War: 2084 is a card collection and battle game where players can battle against the AI as well as with other gamers in intense simulated space combat. Players must collect cards and arrange troops out of them, considering also tactics, gear, and weaponry. Players can also purchase more powerful cards to supplement their current inventory in order to complete campaigns and defeat other players.
Currency
Gold and bucks are the currencies at play within Rivals At War: 2084, with the former being the basic currency and the latter being considered as the premium currency. Gold is awarded as rewards for participating in fights, although winning would get you bigger rewards. Bucks, on the other hand, are awarded at a rate of one per level achieved, or won in campaigns, and can also be acquired via in-app purchases.
Currencies can be used to purchase card packs, which differ in content and value depending on the type of and amount of currency being used. These cards, in turn, can contain soldiers, skill perks, gear, weapons, tactics, or even banners that can change your team’s logo or insignia.
Energy
Energy is required to participate in fights. Like most games, energy is replenished after a specific amount of time, but energy refills can also be acquired in order to fight immediately.
Soldiers
Soldiers have different classes and each function differently during battle. They also have key statistics as well as attributes that can be upgraded. In addition, specific weapons can only be carried by particular classes. Soldiers have a certain number of tours, which relate to how many battles they can participate in. Once their tours have run out, they would either have to retire or players can use tour cards on them so that they can be used for an extended period.
Players should also take note that some soldier classes can only be used once they have reached a certain level, which is done by participating in fights. Win or lose, players will get awarded with XP that will eventually cause the player to level up.
Skill Perks
Skill perks are another type of card that can be acquired. These are consumable cards that can be used to boost the attributes of specific soldiers in order to make them more formidable in combat. Only specific soldier classes can use some skill perks, while others also have empty skill slots that players can use so that they abilities can be boosted.
Tactics
Tactics are a type of card that can be equipped at the beginning of a battle. A total of three tactics can be used, although the player can opt to use none. Tactics include having better defenses or better accuracy, while some will provide you with advantages with regards to offense. Read through each tactic card carefully and use them wisely, as these cards will be gone from your inventory once you use them in battle.
Gear
Gear such as armor and weapons can also be equipped. Like skill perks, only certain classes can use certain cards. Also, these types of cards have a form of health, which is decreased every time they are used in battle. Once this HP has run out, the gear will be discarded. Gear will provide players with stat boosts, although oftentimes this would also cause a certain attribute’s stat to drop. Equipping gear properly is essential in most cases, and players can use the Equip Best function so that the game can automatically equip what they think is best for the soldier given the resources available.
Battles
Battle takes place on a six by six orientation. The objective is to capture a specific area in the map, and the team that is able to hold the position long enough to fill their meter would be declared the winner. Combat is automated, and players can opt to either skip to the results or watch the action unfold.
Players can do battle in a variety of missions. Campaigns will allow for players to compete through different planets, with more areas opening up for them once the objectives has been cleared, and they would also get rewards in the process. Alternately, players can also challenge random players as well as friends via Facebook, or they can participate in campaigns, which are timed events, in order to get superior equipment as well as extra currency should they rank among the top three players during the set period.
