In Blocky Roads, a typhoon has destroyed your farm and you must collect all of your belongings from the surrounding areas. With your trusty truck, players will traverse ledges, hills, and various other obstacles to restore your home to its former glory. It will not be easy, but with this handy little guide, you will certainly be able to have a much easier time playing this fun and challenging game.
Gameplay
Blocky Roads is a driving simulation game where players must cross different areas with your truck. All players have to do is go from one end of the level to another, with controls limited towards braking and acceleration. Players should take caution, however, as there are obstacles that are in your way, and there is both limited health and gas to take consideration of. Coins earned during the run can be used to purchase upgrades as well as new content like clothes and new levels.
Currency
Coins are the primary currency within Blocky Roads. Coins are collected during your runs, and these can be used to unlock new levels and can also be used purchase upgrades to your vehicles as well as new skins to customize your look. Players can revisit previously completed levels in order to acquire enough coins for needed purchases.
Fuel
Your truck has a limited supply of fuel. As you drive, your truck will consume this resource, and this, along with other factors, will determine how far your vehicle can run. Thus, players must be able to make the most out of their fuel, and to make upgrades that will make your truck more fuel efficient. Also, there are fuel tanks that can be picked up which would refuel your fuel gauge.
Health
Aside from fuel, trucks also have health. Upgrades to your vehicle – as well as other vehicles that you can acquire – will increase your durability as you make your runs. Each time players land roughly, they would take damage to their vehicle, and should their health reach zero, their run will end even if they have lots of fuel left. Similarly, the stage will also end if you get turned over. During these times, ensuring that you have good suspension stats for your vehicle, either through upgrades or by using better vehicles.
Upgrades
There are four main upgrade areas available for each vehicle. These are engine stats which determine how efficient your vehicle would be, your drive stats which also helps you climb inclines more easily, your suspension which provides better handling, and the chassis which increases your overall health and makes you lighter. Each vehicle can be upgraded in a specific area for a total of ten times, and these will greatly increase how they perform. Upgrades will cost coins, however, and oftentimes you would not need to max out your stats as a new vehicle with much better stats will be available soon after.
Ghosts
Sometimes during your runs, you will be able to see a “ghost” of your vehicle somewhere within the same screen as you. This will allow you to determine mistakes that you have made in the past, and will also provide you with a benchmark on how to better beat your past performances. Don’t focus too much on this, however, as you might lose your concentration and come out worse than before.
Chests
Throughout each level, players will come across treasure chests that will contain parts of your farm. Once chests have been collected and opened, you can add them to your home. These are not actually requirements, but will serve as rewards for collecting all items within the game as well as satisfy the main plot of why you are making your runs in the first place.
Tips and Tricks
Use your best vehicle during most of your runs, and don’t hesitate to purchase them once they become available. Higher level cars will perform better than the ones that you have acquired earlier, even with maxed out skills. Thus, don’t focus your currencies towards maxing out all of a vehicle’s stats as a better one will come along soon enough. Also, don’t spend your coins on skins unless you are absolutely sure that you can carry on with your current vehicle and compromise performance in exchange for aesthetics.
Don’t forget to control your vehicle even when you are jumping from ledges or have acquired rocket powerups that will launch you in the air. You can use the acceleration and brake controls to adjust your landing, which will allow you to lose less speed as well as to avoid getting damaged. Make sure that you fall as flat as possible, as landing in any other way will make you more prone to flipping over.
If you need to amass a certain number of coins, the easiest way to do so is to play previously completed levels with your newest and most upgraded vehicles. This will allow you to collect more coins, and the experience that you have amassed will also serve greatly towards letting you beat your personal best time.
Lastly, keep your accelerator at the maximum except when landing or if there are obstacles ahead. Use momentum to be able to climb hills more effectively, as failure to do so will cause you to drop down, losing precious fuel as velocity in the process. This will allow you to finish the courses faster, unlocking more stages to explore and collect coins and chests from.
