BATTING TIPS
————
To aim where you’re going to swing your bat, you can control the yellow
cursor in the batter’s box. You can also guess the pitch by pressing R2,
which will give you a hitting advantage.

Press X to swing the bat. If you just tap X and the pitcher threw a ball, it
will just count as a batting check. If you hold in X, then it will be a full
swing.

PITCHING TIPS
————-
Pitching has been retooled in MLB 14: The Show. First, choose your pitch by
pressing any of the face buttons. Then choose where you want to send the
pitch using the left stick. The controller will vibrate the more that you go
outside the batter’s box.

Press X when the circle that is expanding and then retracting around the
cursor is at its smallest point. This will make the pitch as accurate as
possible.

2. Play Now
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
For those that want to quickly jump into the MLB 14: The Show experience.
There are four different options for players in this menu.

==========
EXHIBITION
==========
Just a basic game of baseball. Choose your team, your lineup, and then hit the
diamond. This is the purest experience that there is for MLB 14: The Show.
This mode can be played online or offline, with up to four players playing
the game.

=============
THE SHOW LIVE
=============
This mode uses real stats from actual MLB games to dictate the your in-game
experience. Obviously this mode requires that you are connected to the
Internet, as it utilizes PlayStation Network.

============
ONLINE RATED
============
Online Rated is the equivalent to Online “ranked” in other games. You play
games online against others, and if you win you will gain in rank–losing will
make you decrease in rank.

=================
ONLINE EXHIBITION
=================
Online but without the added “ranked” stress. Think of it as online just for
fun! Though I don’t know if the people you encounter online in this mode will
necessarily be thinking the same way. <_<

3. Franchise
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Just like always, there is a standard “season” mode in MLB 14: The Show. This
mode is called “Franchise” in these games. There are three different flavors
for Franchise:

Franchise
Online Franchise
Season

In these modes, you can choose to control as many of the teams as you’d like.
You can choose to partake in the games or simulate them. You can make trades,
manage rosters, and a lot more.

4. Diamond Dynasty
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Diamond Dynasty is described in-game as a “massive multiplayer online mode”.
It is a lot more strategic than the other game modes because of this. You are
constantly dealing with other players in Diamond Dynasty.

5. Road to the Show
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Road to the Show is another form of single player in the game, however,
instead of taking control of an entire team, you just take control of a single
player.

You can choose a pre-existing MLB player or you can create a customized
player when playing through Road to the Show. After choosing or creating
your player, you then have to choose between four different possible regions
for the Prospect Showcase, which are as follows:

West
Central
East
International

Upon choosing your region, you have to play three different games. These
three games will determine how sought after you are during the MLB draft,
which will follow the games. These games are meant to take place during your
players’ career in the minor leagues.

The “Mini Modes” are quick little modes that can help you out in a variety of
different aspects of MLB 14: The Show, sometimes in the form of fun little
challenges.

==============
HOME RUN DERBY
==============
A staple of any baseball game, Home Run Derby once again returns to MLB 14:
The Show. The goal? To hit as many home runs as possible of course!

================
BATTING PRACTICE

work in MLB 14: The Show.

=================
PITCHING PRACTICE

version. Master it with this practice mode.

7. Community Challenges
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
In the “Mini Modes” section of the guide, I mention the Challenge of the
Week. Not only is there the Challenge of the Week, but a new addition to this
year’s game is the Community Challenges mode.

This mode is pretty self-explanatory. Basically, players are able to create
their own challenges like the Challenge of the Week and then share it with
their fellow gamers.

There are trophies attached to both completing Community Challenges as well as
creating your own, so those that are interested in getting 100% in this game
will want to spend some time in this new mode.
