It seems nothing has changed in the 15 year wait for Duke Nukem to make a return. The graphics are average. The game takes forever to load. The humor is bad. Modern young gamers are unlikely to find this game appealing.
If you played Duke Nukem 15 years ago, then chances are you’ll be playing the new version again. But how many 50-something gamers do we still have around? This time the Aliens have invaded Earth and are abducting the female species. Duke Nukem won’t stand for that. Every woman wants him, so why will he let aliens take them from Earth…and from him?
Duke Nukem comes to the rescue of the damsels in distress. He kicks butt, wipes out the crap, and he doesn’t take shit. Duke Nukem is the ultimate soldier. Ruthless, cunning, hard. The battles may be hard and definitely they are not easy. You will die countless times and it may take you a while to master all the weapons available to Duke. You get to ride a remote controlled car and make bad jokes all along your journey. The aliens won’t let you rest or take a break. They’ll be on your ass all the time. There are many enemies and bosses that simply won’t die. Do you have the courage to stand against them?
This game is fast moving, with plenty of action. This is the first shooter that rocked the gaming world 15 years ago. It won’t rock the world this time round, but if you past 40 then it will rock your world. Youngsters simply won’t stand for this kind of blast from the past. Modern first person shooters are years ahead of Duke Nukem. They load faster, use the most modern 3D engines on the market, load in record time, or perhaps its just that they employ modern programmers, instead of the same ones that came out of college 15 years ago and designed Duke Nukem 3D. Duke was out of gum then and it seems he still is. So if you’re old and out of ego, this game can certainly blast your ego to new heights.
The price is quite expensive too. Do the developers really think gamers will fork out this kind of cash for a game that’s mediocre at best? If you really want to play this game, best wait for it to hit the bargain bin. Then buy it for next to nothing and you won’t feel disappointed after you load it and find its 15 years behind its time. Duke Nukem is old, he could have a heart attack, but then so could you, if you pay full price for such a game and find out you have been hood winked.
Duke Nukem had his days. Make no mistake about it. When he first hit the gaming world when my 486 was around he was the hero. No one could kick ass like Duke Nukem, but he’s now 70 years old and maybe its time for him to retire… permanently. Now Pentium 4s rule the roost, so its time to upgrade to a modern first person shooter, if you really want one. Or maybe wait another 15 years for the next Duke Nukem to appear. Perhaps then, you’ll get your moneys worth.
Going another round like Rocky Belboa doesn’t make sense. Let the youngsters take over the world now.
