Roulette is basically a French term which implies - small wheel. Several legendary tales are associated with its origin.
The most popular of all the assumption is that the game was invented by a French Mathematician and Philosopher by the name of Blaise Pascal. Pascal was always motivated by the idea of perpetual motion in which he was an ardent experimenter. The culmination of his experiments is said to have been the roulette wheel during the 17th century.
The game was found mentioned in the New Francein the year 1758. A vivid portrayal of the game has also been found in La Roulette-- the French novel by Jaques Lablee. It has mentioned the live roulette wheel in Paris that existed in 1796.
The 18th century saw the turn of events as far as this game is concerned as many new version came to be developed. It was the two Frenchmen, Louis and Francois Blanc who created the first modern roulette table in the year 1842. The live roulette table which they invented was what we know today as the European live roulette featuring the most important 鈥榮ingle zero鈥?roulette wheel.
Previously gambling was regarded illegal in France and was mostly played by the royal and aristocratic group. Later this Blanca family migrated to Monte Carlo as that was the only place where gambling was legally accepted. Single zero-based roulette became more and more popular and the game was also exported to other parts of the world. In United States however, the double zero-based wheel was more in vogue. Gradually it came to be known as the king of all casino games.
There is another legendary tale related with the game. It is believed that Francois Blanc sold a soul to the devil to know the secrets of the game of roulette.
The American live roulette also gained ground making it more dominant in casinos all over the world. By the year 1970 casinos began to spread all over the world and today there are hundreds and thousands of casinos all over the world offering several games, one of which is Roulette.
