Bowling Techniques

Learning how to bowl looks simple, but once you actually start to play you’ll realize there is quite a lot to learn about getting the high score that you want. But that’s perfectly fine because it’s easy to start picking-up helpful hints and tidbits of knowledge. And they’ll help your game a lot. It’s not hard to start improving your bowling game. If you learn and use a few strategies and techniques that work – just keep playing and having fun. Your scores will begin to get better very soon.

Being sure you have a decent grip of the ball is key. If your grip is lousy you stand the chance of losing control when you attempt to let go of the ball as you make your approach. You could end up sending it through the air without ever touching the lane – a move referred to as lofting. You could end up throwing the ball behind you rather than towards the lane, by accident. You could even hurt yourself! Having a good grip depends a lot on the holes your ball has: if they are too large or too small your grip will be poor. The ball needs to be the perfect weight for you, one which you are comfortable with. Some players place insert tape on the holes. This special tape has a texture on its surface giving your thumb something to grip. The rougher surface allows for better control over the ball when bowling.

Believe it or not, one important factor in your bowling score is your overall level of fitness. This means that if you bowl regularly, it’s a good idea to work at getting and staying in good physical shape. This is a fairly simple truth that many bowlers, especially novices, simply don’t realize. Upper body strength undeniably plays a large role in bowling. Equally important to your bowling technique is lower body strength. Remember, your overall physical health is very important to bowling, and ignoring it will be detrimental to your game. Going to the fitness center regularly is not only good for your health, but for your bowling score.

Funnily enough, keeping focused on the ball is also true for bowling. This does not mean that you should stare at the bowling ball as you play the game. It means that you should focus your attention on the pin that you want to hit. Keeping your eye on the prize will mean that your arm will naturally send the ball in the same direction as your line of sight. It is just like how, in baseball, keeping your eyes on the ball helps improve your chances of actually hitting it.
