Recently, Blizzard's announcement about wow subscribers down to 5.5M and his decision about not showing wow subscriber numbers in the future have aroused much concern. Why World of Warcraft lost so many subscribers this year? Why they decided not to disclose such information anymore? Some players suggested that wow is likely to be free-to-play in the near future considering the decline and its need of being diversified.
Wow needs to provide more diversified contents
With the announcement of wow 5.5m subscribers, Blizzard also confirmed that a new metrics will replace subscriber number to show wow health in the future. Being unspecified, players are curious about why Blizzard decided not to report wow subscription, and what the new "engagement" metrics will be applied. In this situation, some players believed that the lack of contents in present wow is the reason that Blizzard decided not to disclose sub numbers, so there needs to be something to reinvigorate it. Actually, MMOs are aging fast. You can just log in day after day to do dailies, dungeons/raids and get some sweet dopamine in the form of a loot drop, and after you hit the level cap, there is only so much you can do with mechanics like that. Blizzard knows that, and it is likely the reason why they want to use a new metrics to replace wow subscription number.
Wow would be a free-to-play mmo game in the future
It is said that paid character re-customization in wow is one of the main reasons that lead to a continuous loss on its subscription. According to some opinions, Bioware pays much attention on wow mounts, and all that could be getting more money, but finally hurt the player base. Personally, I believe it is again related to the topic about the quality of the contents, which decides whether the game is worth of paying. However, given this decline, wow is likely to develop to be a free-to-play mmo game. Despite 5M subscriptions, it is in clear decline further leading to the idea that wow will go F2P in the somewhat near future followed by work beginning on World of Warcraft 2.
Of course, all of this is just speculation, but the addition of the WoW token and the backlash against the Warlords of Draenor just make people to believe that all of these things may come into play much sooner than later. So what will you do if you get a F2P wow? Personally, wow gold will be more affordable due to the cost saved from buying the game. Still, wow gold with discount on safewow is also the first choice to save more money.
