According Final Fantasy XIV's official announcement, from now through December 31, players who have purchased and registered but left for some reasons can be back for free. FFXIV campaign lets you revisit Eorzea free for 96 hours

Who else is glad they didn't resub for patch 3.1? Now players whose ffxiv accounts have lapsed for one reason or another are invited to revisit the world of Eorzea for up to 96 hours this month. To qualify for this free campaign, players need to have already purchased and registered the game, and had an inactive account for at least the last 30 days. If you are one of the qualified people, you can hop into the campaign right now. It's important to note that once you've logged in your free playing time will begin and expire in four days. How many players will choose to log in on Friday night and clear everything added in the patch over the weekend? Perhaps even wait for the relic step to be added so you can get that finished too? Anyway, keep in mind that this free campaign is set to end on Thursday, December 31, at 6:59am PT, so just make sure you won't login too late to enjoy in the full allowed time.

FFXIV is worth returning as interesting dungeons added

Many players might have left due to the hard grind in leveling alt jobs/classes and running dungeons and fates over and over.
