How many of you remember the classic game, Sonic the Hedgehog. Yes, I remember being almost seven years old when my mother and father finally bought me my first Sega Genesis. I also remember sneaking down stairs after my bed time to try to play it some more, (ahhh those were the days). Well luckily, enough for me I came across the exact same game online. Luckily, for me I was able to play this game for free with slightly different controls, but I had the same amount of fun and joy I also did when I was younger. So follow me if you will down memory lane as I show you the in's and out's of one of my favorite games from yester-year.
Sonic the Hedge Hog
The controls are pretty straight forward and simple. The space bar allows you to jump, the left and right arrow keys allow you to move both left or right. The objective of this game is to get Sonic to cross the finish line without being killed by an enemy. While in play you will try to collect as many coins as you possibly can, the more coins you collect the higher score you get. One of the challenging things about this game is the desire to run fast and get to the goal quickly(more points are awarded, depending on how long it took you to cross), but you also run the risk of being hurt by a enemy or falling into a hole. Extra life( or man for you gamer geeks) is awarded once you have collected one hundred rings.
Playable Characters
As always, Sonic is not the only one, ready for adventure, he always has a team just as eager to play. Tails has always been considered the sidekick of Sonic. Though Tails is no where as fast as sonic is, he is an very good flyer. In most of the levels(zones) he is a very useful character because he can out manueveur most of the enemy who are earth bound. Though he has the ability to fly, it is only temporary and eventually he must return back to earth and rest.
Knuckles the Echidna
Once was one of Sonic's enemies in the classic Sonic the Hedge Hog game, now he is a powerful ally. His ability included brief gliding, digging and scaling walls and cliffs easily. He is not as fast as Sonic is but he still a very good character if you know how to use him correctly.
The brief amount of time I allowed myself to play this game brought back great memories. Im glad that games like these have not been forgotten and we still have access to them. The kid in me is pleased and happy with this game, and if you ever get to play it, I hope your inner child will be just as pleased as well.
