Dance Central Review

Turn your living room into a dance floor and dance like never before with Dance Central. No controllers or dance mats to hold you back. Everyone in the room will feel like joining in and dancing.

With over 30 songs to dance to most people will want to begin in the “break it down mode”. An instructor will break down each one of the moves for you to perfect before moving on to the next. The instructor talks you through the moves telling you what you should do as well as showing you. This is extremely helpful for the learning curve.

After you are done learning the steps you move on to “perform it”. Here is where you actually dance. Each song has a difficulty level that must be passed to unlock the next difficulty level that features more moves. Basically you have to perform and pass the easy to unlock the medium and the medium to unlock the hard.

During each song there is a freestyle break. Everybody in the room can get up and dance for this time as the Kinect records you. It then plays it back for everyone to see.

When you think you are good enough try out the “dance battle”. Challenge another player to see which one of you is better. You go one at a time and are scored according to the accuracy of your moves. The highest score wins.

There is a workout mode for those that like to workout with dancing. You have the option to enter your weight so the game can keep track of the calories burnt during the workout session. Have fun and burn calories at the same time.

There are not a lot of issues with Dance Central tracking your movements like in some of the other games. It seems to track all the movements fine for the most part. Even the kid’s movements were tracked without a huge problem.

Dance Central is rated for “teen” and up but anybody can play it. I think the rating is due to the complexity of some of the moves. Even my 4 yr old plays and he loves it. He does not pass any of the songs but he has a blast playing with the rest of us.

When you think you have mastered all the moves and songs check for uploads from Xbox live. Dance Central has new songs and moves to be downloaded from time to time.

Dance Central will get any party started. Get up dance and show off your moves. Kinect dance games are a great addition to any family living room. Its no holds bar, shake what your mamma gave ya!
