Borderlands introduced us to the genre coined "role playing shooter," and ever since it's original release in October of 2009, it as been credited with being one of the best games of all time. It featured online up to 4 players, 2 player split screen co-op offline, and non stop action against enemies using vehicles or the game's expansive list of guns galore via the lucrative looting system that just had gamers coming back for more. This of course led to 4 download content packages that expanded the universe more with additional enemies, challenges, weapons (More Rares!!!), new vehicles, and more skill points to further push your character over the to to take on the opposition. As time went on, players still wanted more content to be added to the game and was asking Gearbox Software what was the next more. They weren't talking much about anything else relating to the borderlands universe, but little did we know that they had the biggest ace up their sleeve.....BORDERLANDS 2!!!
That's right fellow gamers, Borderlands 2 has been confirmed and was extensively covered in Game Informer's September 2011 issue where one of the new games characters was revealed, the "awesome-sauce" Gunzerker. Before I get into that beast of a character, here is the info on what is known about the game so far as follows:
* The 4 characters from the first game will be included, but now as NPC's (whether or not they will be included as dlc is unknown at this time).
* All of the weapons from the first game have been trashed, as Gearbox wanted to have a fresh start and start with a brand new set of weapons they are claiming will be more than double the amount of guns than before O_O (for those that don't know, the first game had over 1 million different variations of guns, so the claim of more than double this time around is freaking bananas lol).
* Two of the classes have been confirmed. As I stated above, we know have a gunzerker by the name of Salvador. In a nutshell, what brick is with his fist is what Salvador is to guns!! His class skill is allows him to dual wield any of the guns....any!!!! This means 2 shotguns, 2 rambo-style machine guns, hell even two rocket launchers, the combinations are endless. The next character to be slightly revealed was a character by the name of Maya, who is a siren like Lilith in the first game, but she has a different power from phasewalking, so it will be interesting to see what she is capable of.
*The addition of a new element called Eridium. Instead of acting like one of the core elements that you add to weapons for various effects, it will be considered as another form of currency. Along with acting as a form of currency, it will enhance items like weapons and vehicles, further adding to the game's depth of customization.
* The story in Borderlands 2 will follow what was stated in game informer as "dynamic transitions." In one of their explanations of the missions, you have the choice to rescue Roland, but if you don't, the rest of the game will go on, but with it's own consequences that tie to the NPC being gone, shaping the game down a different route.
* Co-op has been confirmed again (of course lol), keeping the 4 player drop in-drop out online as well as 2 player split screen. Hopefully in future updates they might include split-screen play with players online, who knows.
Bottom line, Borderlands 2 looks to give twice the fun factor as the first one; there is no telling how many hours will be put into the campaign and multiplayer by yours truly lol.
Borderlands 2 has been stated Gearbox to release for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the PC by March 31, 2012. Pre-orders have already been allowed by Amazon and Gamestop, so stop wasting time and reserve it while you can!!
