I recently watched, with much envy I must say, a Rhode Island man hit the Powerball jackpot for over 300 million dollars. Playing the lottery for over fifteen years, the right combination of winning lottery numbers is a feat that continues to elude me twice a week. Every Wednesday and Saturday, I religiously purchase one Powerball ticket and one ticket from my state lottery. "Will these tickets be the ones?", I ask myself. "Will these be my winning lottery numbers?", I wonder with visions of grandure in my head. What would one do with a 100 million dollar lottery jackpot?
I'm positive the winners of immense amounts of cash through past drawings never thought that they would pick their life changing winning lottery numbers either. After all, you stand a greater chance of being attacked by a polar bear and a grizzly bear on the same day. How about being struck by lightning...twice in the same day? That's more likely to happen, as well.
Then there's the people who actually win more than once and you really have to wonder if some people are just destined to have untold amounts of wealth in this life while you continue to struggle day in and day out.
My father used to tell me that you can't win if you don't play. Keeping that concept in mind, I continue to purchase my twice a week shots at winning the big bucks. After all, what could be better than becoming disgustingly wealthy and not performing one minute of manual labor to make it so?
I have always noticed that I do tend to hit more when I purchase quick picks as opposed to playing one set of numbers over and over. Be that as it may, the most I have ever won is 22 dollars and several free tickets.
Perhaps tonight will be the night, though. As I am about to head out the door for my nightly trek to work, I will grab three dollars off of my bedside stand and stop along the way for a Diet Mountain Dew, a bag of Doritos, and my winning lottery tickets. Here's to hoping that this will be my last night working at a menial peon job because, if I do pick the winning lottery numbers tonight, I am going to start living my dreams while ensuring my friends and family are able to do the same. Until then, winning the lottery will be a dream come true for a lucky few, but still a daydream and lifelong aspiration for most...including me. Darn, it's time to go to work.
