Blizzard Internal Network was Hacked

Blizzard issued an emergency notice, their internal network was hacked, part of the users’ account information were stolen.

This Blizzard’s announcement to tell you in euphemism: Blizzard internal network has been hacked. In view of the U.S. service related to cash transactions, the players and Blizzard are better get ready.

Dear players,

This week, our network security team found someone had not authorized to access the Blizzard internal network illegally. We have immediately shut down the access, and network security and legal experts are studying the problem.

We did not find any evidence that credit card, address and real name were stolen and we are still investigating, but did not find this information had been stolen.

But some other information still had been stolen, including the global battle network users’ email outside of China. The user’s security questions and some information about the phone verification and SMS security notices and so on of the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia on the United States serving had been stolen. According to our current investigation, by this information alone cannot enter into your Battle.net account.

We also investigated players’ battle network password (not the real password) who had encrypted on the U.S. service also had been stolen. We had used the SRP to protect the player’s password, which is the most difficult to decrypt, and need one by one password to decrypt, but for security issues, we recommend that the U.S. service players to change their passwords and please click here to change your password. In addition, if you are using the same password in other places, we recommend that you to modify it.

In the next few days, when players visit U.S. service, they would automatically be asked to modify the security questions and answers. In addition, users who use the phone verification prompted also need to update the phone to verify the software. Remind, phishing email will ask you to provide password or boarding, Blizzard emails will never ask you for password. We are very sorry for the inconvenience to everyone, if you have any questions, please check here.

We attach great importance to the player’s personal information security, and are very sorry this happened.

Sincerely,

Mike Morhaime
