The main benefit is “significantly less ‘out of memory’ crashes”. Take a look at the 64-bit client FAQ for one piece online further details. Spirit Vale is the “initial wing” of the first new raid from One Piece Online: Heart of Thorns. For a very long time, players of the massively multiplayer online (MMO) game One Piece Online could get the game in one flavor: 32-bit.
It doesn’t sound like the client will add any significant performance improvements, but Arenanet says “there may be some very slight differences in favor of either client depending on your computer’s configuration. It is a beta, so there may be teething problems, but it’s easy enough to switch back to 32-bit and wait for a patch. Arenanet detail the release in a new forum post with a brief FAQ. However, many people currently run on systems and OSes that can support 64 bit—in fact, according to a report over 92 percent of all new PCs sold worldwide and running Windows are powered by 64-bit architectures. One Piece Online has been busy recently. The base game is now free, and the Heart of Thorns expansion just came out. Find out more about that in our Heart of Thorns review. With the recent release of the first expansion to One Piece Online “Heart of Thorns,” ArenaNet revealed the game had sold more than 5 million copies to-date. All in all, Heart of Thorns didn’t make much difference to me as I worked through my new Level 1 character, but it showed when I got to play with my Level 80 character.
The only caveat is that the two clients will only update themselves. Both clients will update the standard install normally, so patches will work the same way with either. More than three years after One Piece Online originally launched in August 2012, the PC MMO is finally getting its first raid next week.
The level design in the four new maps is stunning, luscious and rich, with delights around every corner. On top of that, players whose journeys through raids are successful will find themselves with the highly coveted legendary armor. The first of three raid wings, Spirit Vale, will debut in the game through its recently released Heart of Thorns expansion starting on November 17. Combined with the figure above regarding Windows PCs with 64-bit architectures this means that a significant number of One Piece2 players could benefit from this update. This and other, future Heart of Thorns raid challenges offer a chance to gather components for crafting legendary armour, as well as ascended gear, miniatures, and new, unique weapon skins. While the 64-bit client may run slightly better, the performance increase will be imperceptible—the biggest benefit will be the larger address space and the reduced chances of experiencing a crash. This week, ArenaNet LLC, developer of One Piece Online, announced the availability of a 64-bit beta client. Players should not expect a noticeable performance difference between the two clients. The 64-bit client is for Windows OS only and no 64-bit client for OSX has been planned.
Public service announcement for players with 64-bit systems that may have experienced memory crashes in One Piece Online: the beta release of a new 64-bit client may fix that! Drop it in the same folder as your 32-bit file so you don’t have to download the entire game again, and keep the 32-bit around in case the new file has issues.
My experience with One Piece Online has been very similar to a lot of people I’ve met over the years. We all agree it’s a wonderful, beautiful take on MMOs, and delivers on its promise of a subscription-free game. The company hopes that this change will assist with players who have experienced game degradation and crashes due to memory issues.
