COLOGNE (Gamer.no): I want to believe there were many who were quite surprised when Square Enix abruptly announced a new Dungeon Siege game. Why Dungeon Siege somehow? So certainly a respectable range, but how even this license in his fists to the Japanese giant Square Enix? Why would Square Enix have this name on the poster's? And how even those with Obsidian to develop? A developer who is known for basically making quality games that too often could benefit from some extra months of polish and fine-tuning?
The short answer is that it really did not play any role. Are you like me you've been waiting for a new Dungeon Siege game. And after watching the game in action, I can not say much other than that this is something that really is missing on consoles today. Square Enix will expand its stack with the more Western-oriented role play, and after having seen Dungeon Siege III, I expect the excitement of more.
Old to new
I see strong signs that Dungeon Siege III can be Obsidian's most important games. The game that seriously set them on the map as a studio that really can deliver the goods. The first character of this is the very gorgeous graphics that ridiculous make all their previous games. Dungeon Siege III is the first game that uses Obsidian's own graphics engine, and the result is impeccable. I was not completely convinced at the start, but that was before I realized that the developers hired the presentation of "vanity cam" a camera action tailored to let you study your equipment up close.
As the developers took me on a guided tour through Ehb - the world of Dungeon Siege - I gradually became more and more impressed. The game is colorful with creative design and user djupnesyn in a way that forms a real impression of large area full of life. Although we bought me a lot of time in a cave, it was called anything but gray and keisamt. Wonderful lighting cast an atmospheric blue haze over the stage, and in the background I could see hidden routes, treasures and enemies as impatient waiting to get your hands on us.
What we are introduced to is a fantasy world of the really classic kind. The visual presentation sends nostalgic thoughts back to a time when "hack'n'slash" role play lay on top of most lists, desire, and it makes me really want to play.
Swing your sword
The main point of Dungeon Siege III is naturally fighting. Fleirfaldige struggles and all the treasures they can bring with it. Obsidian seems to have very good ideas for how this should be handled. Each character in the game has two different attack positions, and each position allow you to use different weapons and characteristics. Obsidian's demonstration quite varied for example between a tohandssverd and a sword with shield, and the dynamics that occur when you can quickly and lettvindt bytes between different ways of attacking the middle of a game looks absolutely engaging out.
In addition, you will at all times have access to several different characteristics. These vary between the defensive and offensive, and can be performed with a quick button press. Our hero throwing themselves against enemies in a whirlwind of a dance of death, before he took out his shield and health barometer was steady in balance again.
Obsidian has also made some very smart moves to make the collection of all the treasures you find much easier. When you're standing over an object to a text on the screen to show what it is, how good it is, how rare it is, and how much you could sell it for. In other words, you need not spend a long time going through your backpack to weed out all the dirt.
Seamless edges cooperation
It has always been important cooperation in Dunegon Siege series, Dungeon Siege III is no exception. Konsollversjonane of the game, however it all takes quite a lot longer. Although developers would not look with how the game will work over the network (or PC) - as, for example, how many players it will support - they demonstrated something that is just as exciting.
If you take the trip over to a friend, and he sits and plays Dungeon Siege III, you can just pick up a checks and press start to take control of one of the NPC marks on the screen. You do not log in, or import your own character. This will automatically pull the camera back in the classic Dungeon Siege and Diablo-style so that both players have full control over what happens without at any time to share the screen in two.
Do you at any time leave the fun, you can just press start again to let the AI will take over. It is not entirely clear how this works if you log in with your own profile, or go online with your own character, but we'll bet that you will use your hard earn experience points there too.
Obsidian also showed a little of how they will deal with the history of the game, and could tell that it will have a major focus. Dialog is conducted through a Mass Effect-acti dialogtre, but much more than this was I do not see. The quality of the adventure, however, should be good, since it is the author of Obsidian's Neverwinter Nights adventure that controls the pen this time too.
Conclusion
Dungeon Siege III seems to be a wonderful throw back to the action role playing of the old variety. Authors at Obsidian, however, has not settled down to copy the old formula and rubbel bit. They have taken care essence of the old Dungeon Siege games, while they have added much new. The game seems to have a very dynamic battle system that transfers very easily to a potentially splendid co-op. In addition, there is much to suggest that the game will have a good story, which of course is good news for them as any player alone.
It is thoroughly competition between fantasy play in the future, but you should not look away from the fact that Obsidian's struggle to take the royal trophy could end with victory at the Dungeon Siege III is available immediately in 2011.
