The Cave Guide – The Zoo Puzzle Guide

The Cave, a game made by Ron Gilbert and Double Fine Productions is a 2D side scrolling puzzle quagmire. We will document our journey through The Cave and will be posting up stopping points along the way for anyone that may need some help. The Cave Zoo Puzzle Guide

The Zoo puzzle in The Cave is all about the Crystal Cave Monster Hunter. This puzzle is a common puzzle, as in you will have to do the puzzle no matter what characters you have selected to go through The Cave. Make your way through this section and you will be greeted by the Crystal Monster grabbing one of your characters. After the Crystal Monster grabs one of your characters you will see the Crystal Monster Hunter running after behind it. Following her is the key to starting this puzzle, now we can really start our The Cave The Zoo Guide.

The Crystal Monster Hunter & Her Taper Recorder

After one of your characters gets grabbed, jump over the gap and then go down. After going down, go all the way to the right and hop over another gap. You will come to the Crystal Cave Monster Hunter doing a podcast. Her tape recorder will die and she will throw it aside. Grab the batteryless tape recorder, because you’re going to need it.

No go down the gap and head to the left. Eventually you will run into the Crystal Cave Monster. The monster will swallow you up and move you over to the other side by your original character that was eaten. Take your third character down the same path so that they get eaten by the Crystal Cave Monster.

Finding the Battery for the Batteryless Tape Recorder

The battery in the zoo puzzle is pretty easy to find. Once you have all three characters behind the Crystal Cave Monster, take one of the characters up the ladder. Eventually you will see a box. Push it down onto the ground floor.

Push the box all the way over to the left and then with another character jump to the ledge that can now be reached. There is a lever here that will open a door, but before that continue over to the left. You will see some dead bodies on the ground. Head over to the dead robot and click the action button. A dead battery will pop out of the robot. Take this battery back to the area with the other two characters. Drop the battery and the character with the batteryless tape recorder will be able to use it to make an unpowered tape recorder.

Powering the Tape Recorder

Powering the tape recorder in the zoo puzzle is pretty easy. Take one character that and have them pull the lever to make the floor open up. Then take another one of the characters and make them pull the lever so that the door opens in the tunnels. Make sure that the last character you have has the unpowered tape recorder and take them through the door.

Make your way back to the top of the zoo. If you go all the way to the left there will be a tank full of electric eels. Swim around in this tank with the unpowered tape recorder and it will turn into a plain old tape recorder that will now record noises.

Exiting The Zoo

Now that we have powered the tape recorder in The Zoo we can use it to record the Crystal Cave Monster. Head down to where the monster is. Drop the tape recorder on the ground right before you get too close to it. The Tape Recorder will say (recording) when you are standing by it. Run into the Crystal Cave Monster and you will get a recording of the monster’s yelling.

Move back through the open doorways that should still be open. If not just make your other characters pull the levers again. Go back to the tape recorder and pick it up. With the recording, take the tape recorderCrystal Cave Monster Hunter and drop it on the ground just before getting shot for going to close to the vending machine. She will hear the recording and head off running. Once she is gone you can grab a hot dog out of the vending machine.

Take the hot dog back down by the Crystal Cave Monster. The monster will start to smell the piece of meat and start walking towards you. Lead it over to the right to where there is some unstable ground. The monster will break the ground and fall to its death. Jump through the new hole in the ground and you will have completed The Zoo Puzzles in The Cave
