I'm slowly unlocking more and more content in Trials Evolution. I'm now up at around 100 medals, with the final set of challenges needing 135. The game is now so hard that I'm happy just to finish stages with a Bronze medal, but that will leave me a way short of the required total. I'm going back to easier stages in order to up my medals from bronze to silver, or silver to gold, but even this is proving incredibly tough - I thought I'd improved but it seems I'm not much better than when I started playing. If you've yet to try out the Super Bike Boy level Track Central, give it a whirl and let me know how you got on. I was up to 275 retries when I turned the Xbox off the other day.
I was going to write about Witcher 2 this week, but to be honest, Temple Run is the game I've been playing the most this week. And yes, it's been out since Crimbo on iOS, but it only showed up on Android last month, so it's a big deal to me.
You probably know the game already, but if not: it's more or less an into-the-screen take on Canabalt, with a vague Indiana Jones theme. You've just stolen a dodgy-looking Idol from an Aztec temple, and you're now being chased by killer monkeys (which, as we all know, is both the best and worst kind of monkey). You run away, dodging obstacles and grabbing coins, until you invariably cock up and perish. And that's it.
But it's brilliantly addictive. I've just burst the 5km barrier, and I'm saving up to buy the guy who looks like Indy. If you've got a high score to show off, let me know and I'll struggle (no doubt in vain) to beat it.
Tom Pearson is better than me, and so is Andy Spenceley. Pearson leaves the company next week (his last day is Monday!) so that means I just need to find a way to separate Spenceley with his hands and I'm comfortably the best player in the office. I'm booby trapping the cheese grater as we speak.
It's good, though, isn't it? My only worry at the moment is that I've hit a skill ceiling and that I'll need to put in a lot of time to get just a little bit better. I smashed into this wall with Trials HD, too. I'm not asking to be able to pull off Inferno III with 0 retries, but I find most of the Expert level tracks so difficult that I just get absolutely nowhere. And I can't even get a single Platinum medal. I feel like I'm losing my mind here, and I haven't seen any new shiny trophies in ages.
Still, once I'm done with Spenceley at least I'll be the best in the office...
