Most of the primary missions in MGS 5 let you aim for high scores by meeting specific criteria, mainly split up between being as stealthy and fast as possible. Completing a mission in record time without killing anyone, among other things, will push you one spot closer to earning the highest honor of all, an S Rank. Doing this results in 20 percent more GMP. That’s 20 percent of your score for a particular mission. Want a higher score? You’re able to obtain bonuses for taking down enemies with headshots, successful interrogations and not using Reflex Mode, for starters. So long as you don’t rush in guns blazing, the S Rank can be yours.
These optional missions task you with completing simple objectives. Often times you will need to extract a prisoner, eliminate a soldier or armored vehicle and clear mines, among other objectives. There are 150 Side Ops in Metal Gear Solid 5, and each one pays out a chunk of GMP. Early missions yield amounts in the low thousands (Side Op 1: Extract Interpreter pays 30,000), but later ones will put 200,000 and even 300,000 into your virtual bank account. Granted, it may take a while traveling to these mission locations, but considering the rewards, it’s worth the effort and a cool excuse to sight see.
You’ll find a wealth of precious stones in The Phantom Pain. Some you’ll come across in the field, while others were placed around mission locations; you can even interrogate soldiers to learn of new diamond locations. Pick one up and you’ll receive anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 GMP depending on the size. No reason to leave them alone. It’s free money!
When you’re able to add soldiers to your unit, you can send these virtual warriors on Combat Deployments. The best part? You don’t have to get your hands dirty. Assign people to different missions (you can have at least two active at one time, with the ability to opt for more after constructing Forward Operation Bases), then continue on your way while the GMP rolls in. Yes, there’s a chance some of them will die, so make sure you send your finest soldiers on missions with high projected success rates or say the heck with it, everyone’s expendable; we suggest you lean towards the former. Next to scavenging for diamonds, this is the next easiest way to get tons of GMP in MGS 5.
