Fallout 4: Show No Mercy - Take Back Fort Strong

Now that you’ve gotten acquainted with the Prydwen crew members, it’s time to tackle your first mission as a Brotherhood Knight. Fort Strong has a bit of a mutant problem, and it's up to you to rid the area of hostiles for the sake of the Brotherhood. Follow our guide to complete this mission and prove that you’re Brotherhood of Steel material.

Meet with Elder Maxson

It's time to prove your worth as a newly inducted Brotherhood Knight.

Head to the Prydwen flight deck and report to Elder Maxson for your first mission assignment. He tells you that Fort Strong has been overrun with Super Mutants who are withholding an arsenal of Fat Man shells, and he’s tasked you with clearing the area of hostiles.

Board the Vertibird Gunship

There is a Vertibird prepared for departure nearby on the flight deck. Board the Vertibird, and mount the minigun turret. The minigun is perfect for launching an aerial assault on the unsuspecting mutants of Fort Strong.

Kill the Super Mutant Behemoth

Use the minigun turret on the Vertibird to quickly eliminate Super Mutant hostiles.

As the Vertibird hovers over Fort Strong, a massive Super Mutant Behemoth notices your presence and begins chucking rocks at the gunship. He’s pretty easy to spot amidst the debris. Use the minigun turret to mow down the Behemoth, as well as the other Super Mutants that gather nearby.

Secure Fort Strong

Once the Super Mutant Behemoth is defeated, the Vertibird will circle around and lower you down into the area. As the gunship waits for you to leave, several Super Mutants, including a Legendary enemy, will rush to your position. Although you can disembark right away, we suggest that you stay on the Vertibird and continue gunning down enemies with the minigun turret, as it makes quick work of the oncoming mutants without using precious ammo.

Secure Fort Strong Armory

Finish clearing out the Super Mutants in the outer area of Fort Strong, then proceed towards the armory. Enter the building, and prepare to battle multiple Super Mutants as you make your way through the halls. Clear out the first floor, and locate an elevator near the back of the center corridor. Ride the elevator to the second floor. Eliminate the Mutant Hound, as well as several more Super Mutants found on this level. After each floor is clear of hostiles, speak with Paladin Danse.

Speak to Paladin Danse

Locate Paladin Danse and speak with him after you’ve cleared out Fort Strong’s armory. If your Charisma rank is high enough, inquire about Danse’s hatred for Super Mutants to earn some additional XP. Afterward, Danse dismisses you to report back to Elder Maxson at the Prydwen.

With a high Charisma, you may convince Paladin Danse to open up about his hatred for Mutants.

Before leaving the Fort Strong Armory, scour the building and corpses for any valuable loot. There are several Novice locked rooms as well as a Master locked safe that contain valuable items, such as mini nukes, a Fat Man, and even Power Armor. Plus, there’s plenty of ammo lying around for you to resupply your weapons. Take a final look around the area before heading back to the Prydwen.

Speak to Elder Maxson

Bring up your Pip-Boy and Fast Travel back to the Prydwen. Locate Elder Maxson in his office on the Main Deck of the airship. Speak with him regarding the status of Fort Strong, answering him how you wish. Maxson will reward you with several Vertibird Signal Grenades, which allow you to call in Vertibirds to travel throughout the wasteland. Vertibird Signal Grenades can be purchased from Proctor Teagan in the supply shop if you need more.

If you have not yet completed the Main Quest: Institutionalized, then the Brotherhood of Steel Quest: From Within becomes available. Otherwise, the Brotherhood of Steel Quest: Outside the Wire will unlock for players who completed Institutionalized already.
